am i the only one who thinks a show set entirely on vulcan would actually be kinda amazing?? like no starfleet, no space battles, just full-on vulcan daily life. all the logic, emotional repression, intense societal rules—there’s so much to dig into. give me the politics, the philosophy debates, the quiet personal dramas that simmer under the surface. it could be the slow-burn, hyper-logical, emotionally complex sci-fi drama of my dreams. why does this not exist yet??

I'm a few drinks in and now I'm wondering how Christmas would work when humans are out in the galaxy.

Would they use the calanders of earth, or the calander of their planet?

Would they keep up the santa claus story?

How would it evolve to account for the new planet?

Is santa at the North Pole of this world, or just the North polemof earth and he magically makes it to their world?

Or does santa have a space ship now?

Or would santa just be abandoned all together and it becomes a generic gift giving holiday.

And yeah, I know not everyone celebrates Christmas. But a lot of people I know of the non Christian faiths put up a few decorations, a tree, and give gifts, for their kids if nothing else.

It's the gift giving, not the religious aspect, that they like.

Christmas seems to get more integrated and less religious every year. And that's not a bad thing.

I like to think humans in the future would take it with them to the stars.

Imagine if you will a chainsaw with beams emanating from the teeth, wouldn't that be sick awesome. Probably would not be good for cutting down trees but it'd probably break through armour good (while being very intimidating).

What if humans went through metamorphosis?

Metamorphosis is not a rare biological process. 65% of all known animal species on our planet go through partial or complete metamorphosis. It's interesting to note that the fossil records of the earliest insects show no evidence of its existence. It was a later development, about 300 million years ago. Why did it happen? Perhaps the environment went through radical changes. Maybe it was a genetic mistake. What's for sure is that after many millennia it's still part of the animal kingdom's life processes.

Humanoid beings that undergo metamorphosis is a subject that pops now and then in fantasy and sci-fi. Maybe their civilization would have no "children," and no "family," since species that develop using this process don't watch over their offspring.

How would metamorphosis affect the psyche of these beings? Would they become another "person" after the transformation? Would they have massive passage rituals to guide them through? Would they lose the memories of the stage before?

Could one of them decide not to go through the process and retain their juvenile form? That "choice" also exists for some species; it's called paedogenesis.

Nomadic because of the Deadly Sun

Okay so I just learned that the planet Mercury, even though its equator is hot enough to melt frickin lead, has ice on its polar caps. And that's because there are spots in craters that are eternally shadowy, untouched by the sun and only warmed by Mercury's molten interior. Even with this, the temperatures are still well below freezing. On Mercury. The closest planet to our Sun.

Anyway keeping that in mind, I'm now thinking about potential sci-fi world building. Imagine a desert planet with more livable conditions than Mercury, but the planet's Sun is hot enough to literally kill you in a matter of hours. And there on that planet, an intelligent nomadic species who has learned to travel within the shadows of mountains and craters and caves. They constantly move with the rotation of the Sun. Because of this, most of the work gets done at night when the Sun is gone, and have evolved to take short but highly effective power naps during the day. Until technology develops even further to make their own traveling shadows and freezer boxes. Whether that be uderground roads or specialized carts, I don't know.

Anyway I wanted to write that idea down here to save for later.

Run a horror game set on a space ststion using the Killer Klowns from outer space Klowns but never ever refer to them as clowns, jesters, or any other kind of funny men. Describe their horried little squawk tubes and devilishly small vehicles straight faced and let the players figure out what the fuck is going on on their own.
