' he clears his throat, blinks wildly from where he sits not too far from where she's addressing him. he hadn't expected her to notice, or maybe he didn't expect her to call him out on it. he knew he had been staring, mind drifting off and eyes focusing on wherever they happened to land. ( but there was more to it than that, wasn't there? ) still, being called out was enough to put him on the spot. it made him nervous, defensive, prone to lashing out and so he did.
