32. “I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified” mreyder?
Keema's laughter lingered in the room even after she'd left. She was the best second in command he could ever ask for but sometimes the woman drove him out of his mind. She had come to deliver a few messages to him about Scott'a latest escapades on Kadara, ignoring that Scott was in the room with him and could have easily explained things himself. Scott of course didn't share his annoyance and found it amusing that Keema couldn't help herself from pointing out just how smitten Reyes was with the Pathfinder.
He didn't care what was on the datapads either. His attention was focused on the fact that Scott told him they were going after the Archon. He's crew had finally narrowed down the location of the Archon's ship, and of Meridian, and they were going to make an assault on the ship, one final blow to the asshole who thought he could take over the galaxy.
"Scott you know this is insanity." Reyes leaned back in his seat, watching Scott as the younger man fiddled with something on a data pad.
"No, yes. We have to Reyes. We can't just let this keep going. Sooner or later it's not just gong to be Angara that are getting exulted. It's going to be all of us." Scott set the datapad down and watched the smuggler. He knew Reyes would be upset but he had to do it. "We're not going in blind or alone."
"That's not the point!" Reyes snapped, regretting it a moment later. He hated that Scott could drag his emotions out of him so easily.
Scott blinked, surprised by the outburst, and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. "Reyes..."
"It's suicide Scott. The Archon has an army behind him."
"And I've got Drack." Scott laughed, leaning back. He expected a laugh out of Reyes but when he was met with silence he looked back over at the Charlatan. "And the resistance and the Initiative, Reyes it'll work out."
"And when it doesn't? When you leave and you don't ..."
"You're scared." Scott frowned before he got up. Moving around the table he dropped onto the sofa beside Reyes, resting a hand on his thigh. "Reyes."
"Don't you Reyes me. You can't keep disappearing off into the galaxy and throwing yourself into danger. Do you have any idea what it does to me?" Of course Scott didn't. He'd never told him, didn't want to tell him. Scott had so much else to deal with he didn't need Reyes' insecurities on top of it all. "Every time you leave the port I don't know if you're coming back or not. I ..." Reyes reached up, running his fingers along Scott's jaw as he met his eyes. "I think I'm in love witih you and I'm terrified of what that means. And now you want to go assault the flagship of the Kett fleet?"
"You love me?" The way Scott's eyes lit up before going soft was almost enough to make him forget he was angry.
