Description

This is the first of two portraits by Ramsay of the historian and philosopher, David Hume. It was painted during Ramsay’s extended stay in Edinburgh in 1754, when, together with Adam Smith, Hume and Ramsay helped found an exclusive debating club known as the Select Society. In the same year, Hume also published the first volume of his celebrated History of England.

Créeme que algún día sucederá.. ..No podré decirte exactamente cuando, solo puedo contarte experiencias posibles por las que puedas pasar.. ..Aquí te mostraré solo realidad.. ..Te enseñaré a sentir, a vivir.. a creer.. y diferenciarlo de la fantasía.. aprenderás a entender y por ello razonar.. crecerás no solo mentalmente.. Conocerás algo llamado alma... y te encontrarás con ella.. ..Evolucionarás, y cuando lo hagas.. estaré orgulloso de ello. Se siente la falta de aire.. y luego la necesidad de oxigeno.. ..Inténtalo.. quizá no puedas solo.. te ayudaré..! pero no habrá vuelta atrás.. Desde ya te digo, te dolerá el pecho.. hasta que luego sientas la fuerza que no puedes manejar... es involuntaria. Harás cosas que nunca hiciste.. ..Ella te controla. Y quizá sea.. luego una mejor vida?.. quizá no se sienta nada.. No se..! será una experiencia que no podrás contar.. solamente la vivirás.. y ya es suficiente. Ellos la vivirán después.
