this is the thing i've had with Zero Hour tbh - people are aware that it's a WIP fic and will have to wait for chapters, but it doesn't seem to have impacted the following imho. you cant really say anything other than reassure people that you have a plan for where it's going. nine times out of ten, a fic with no real end goal will never get finished and those are the ones that put people off!

I’m glad for Zero Hour!!! 

And I think that it's linked to readership too. Maybe the writer who didn't finish didn't know where they were going, or maybe they didn't have readers and gave up? A WIP is such a different beast than a completed fic published all at once. As a reader you want to be reassured and believe it will be finished no matter what (even if it gets like 1 review par chapter) and as a writer, you kinda want your WIPs to get attention, kudos, comments. It's like your engine to get going.

I don't play Andromeda as canon, but even my canon Scott is really estranged from his family. I kind of got the feeling Ellen and Alec cared deeply about their careers, and didn't quite manage to hit the balance between work and family very well. Ellen seems to keep it together better than Alec, but Alec just seems to throw himself into his work. My version of Sara is also very independent as a result, and she pretty much just kept herself to herself like Scott did.

Oh. Makes me wonder why I assume Ellen is the opposite of Alec when it comes to their kids.

my thoughts on Alec can be summed up with: you can always trust a dishonest man to be so ;) i have a lot of thoughts about alec ryder tbh i find him fascinating bc of all those grey areas. and the way he acts given his n7 rank ties in too nicely with my n7 headcanons 👀
