I feel like being a Scourge fan who’s against sexualizing him or just in general against anything that’s deemed problematic nowadays is very funny. I’ve been blocked by so many people because of things we didn’t agree over, and I myself have blocked A LOT of Scourge fans because I too, didn’t agree with that they did with him.
It’s why you won’t see me reblog EVERY Scourge post, despite me saying that’s my thing — a lot of artists and fans of Scourge have blocked me because i’ve either found distate in their work, or have called them out or questioned them on things I was concerned about.
I could understand why some people would sexualize Scourge or make suggestive art of them, he IS 17 after all, so it’s not exactly a crime. But to me, it’s more or so based off of preference; while it’s not exactly illegal, i still find it odd sometimes because when you rephrase the way you say the setence, yes, he IS 17, but also, he’s 17. 17 is still fairly young, even if it’s a year above the age of consent, 17 year olds are STILL immature. You can’t expect somebody to immediately become mature as they're coming to the age of adulthood, but in terms of what they do with other characters you kind of have to take that into account.
17 year olds obviously get freaky, it’s not like it’s unheard of or shocking but when it comes to depicting that in media, sometimes I find it weird. ESPECIALLY with how people depict SCOURGE of all characters engaging in it.
If you’re gonna do that, i’m not gonna do anything like deem you a pedophile, but i’m gonna most likely block you and find you weird — HOWEVER, this part isn’t exactly aimed at people who just normally draw stuff about this. In this part, i’m more or so talking about the EXTREMELY horrid things depicted with Scourge.
I’m gonna give a warning before I mention it because it’s obviously very vulgar, but to sum it up, there’s a lot of NSFW of Scourge specifically partaking in acts with characters that are MINORS in which they are just very, VERY intense (orgy’s, anal sex, etc etc). That is where I will most likely deem you to be MORE than just weird, because most of the time it's not just Scourge that is written in these. From what I've seen, it's normally Sonic, Fleetway, Zonic, and sometimes Shadow?? It’s normally in a lot of Sonourge media or Sonourge adjacent media (Zonourge, Fleetourge, etcetc), which is ANOTHER thing I would like to talk about, but possibly in another post, since i wanna stay on topic.
Point is, I don’t like Scourge NSFW or suggestive stuff; depending on how you define suggestive, I may not block you, because again, it’s normal for 17 year olds to make jokes about stuff like that, and Scourge would probably make jokes like that as well, but I’ve seen a lot of ”suggestive” art where it’s just uncomfy for me or blatant NSFW, which in that case, PLEASE tag correctly.
I understand that Scourge is over the age of consent, but he’s still, in my eyes, very young and a lot of these things don’t seem to be basic depictions of what 17 year olds may do, and most of the time seem to be written out of pleasure (again, not EXACTLY judging, but depending on how old you are, I may or may not be judging VERY, VERY hard). A lot of the people who make this content are WELL over the age of 17, and WAYYYY older than Scourge, which is also where my concern derives from sometimes, because I find it concerning that grown adults, normally from the ages of 26 to mid 30’s find pleasure in writing this stuff of a still very young character, and normally OTHER characters which are WAYYY younger. I also obviously don’t expect minors to be posting NSFW, they shouldn’t, period, but I don’t think adults should be writing this specifcally about these characters.
But with that aside, a lot of people have also blocked me for not supporting ships like Scourgamy or Manourge. Manourge is very rare nowadays, but i still see a lot of Scourgamy, and i’m gonna make it clear that i don’t support it at all. If you’ve VERY clearly aged them up, then i won’t care too much, but most of the time the ”age-ups” i’ve seen are.. Very clearly just made for the shipping purpose and nothing more. I have seen very well written stories where Amy and Scourge are clearly aged-up, and that is visible through design, personality and the stuff they remember/know, but most of the time I just see Scourge x Amy with no changes, and so that's why I normally criticise those who ship it. Amy is 12, and in Archie, from what I remember, despite being aged up, she is still mentally 12. Scourge is 17. Always has been, always will be. The age gap is all I need to know in order to dislike this ship, it's a 5 year age gap. Yet people STILL grab pitchforks when I say “hey, this is bad!”. I’ve just resorted to blocking any Scourgamy shippers I see now, but I really don’t get what’s so hard to see about this being problematic.
My points are a little scattered, I didn’t plan this post at all and didn’t plan it to be this long, I was gonna make a short paragraph based on how I noticed a pattern with Scourge fans, but it kinda got out of hand. I don’t know how many people will agree with me on this?? A lot of fans i’ve met don’t agree, so i’m unsure. Feel free to tell me what you think though, i’d be happy to debate! (/gen /nm)
