The amount of stuff ive read both fancomics and fanfics, has sonic not liking reading or not reading well and like-

Sonic is a teenager and Mario is a fully grown adult who pays taxes(idk), so the people saying that Mario hates Sonic is just micharacterizationing Mario because Mario is really nice to kids and teenagers like being kind is a big part of his brand and sonic is shown latching on to any adult who is kind and nice to him so that is why I believe sonic and Mario have a father son bond.

An Old Draft: "Badniks" or "robots" in the Sonic universe are sentient. I want a Metal Sonic focus again please!!

There are so many examples of robots in this franchise that feel so intensely. The earliest obvious example being E-123 Omega, whose combat focused programming ended up being flipped to target Eggman. He became sentient and decided to attack Eggman due to his resentment. (Obviously from Sonic Heroes we also have Neo Metal's existence and how that relates to robot sentience in this world) In Sonic 06, he is also shown to really care for Rouge and Shadow as friends, which goes against even his combat programming.

Another, more recent example is Sage from Frontiers. She has such intense and complicated feelings about family, that the game focuses on the connections between friends and family. Her and Metal are literally considered to be Eggman's kids now, which humanizes them to a shocking extent.

A casual example is from The Murder of Sonic the Hegdehog, where the badnik train is upset that the conductor is leaving. The ending is him coming to terms with loss, and knowing that the conductor moving on is a natural part of his life.

And my favorite example from the IDW comics, Belle the Tinkerer. Belle has a familial connection to the Eggman family, and expresses that a lot in her arc. Belle literally has a crisis because of her connection to Eggman. She also sees Metal Sonic as a brother, just as much as she sees Mr Tinker (Eggman) as her father. The fact that she has opinions in the first place makes her sentient. She is undeniably a robot character in the series, who is also treated the same as everyone else in the story.

All of this to say that I think it's clear that Metal Sonic is also sentient, just like seemingly all badniks are (in one way or another). In Sonic Heroes, he literally imprisons Eggman so that he can pursue glory for himself. Metal Sonic is actually pretty rebellious sometimes. (more discussion at final evidence) In the early IDW comics, he tries to finish what Eggman started. In Murder of Sonic, he also expresses that he sees Eggman as his dad.

None of these things have technically been programmed into him, it's just his personality, and his own opinions in these seperate moments. I think the most important moments in proving his sentience are in two important places: the 2020 IDW annual, and issue 50-54ish.

In the IDW 2020 annual, Metal Sonic gets really upset that him and Sonic are not the same, and basically just the fact that he's not Sonic. It gives us a kind of new perspective of Metal, that he has insecurities like that. (also a very humanizing trait)

When Metal meets Belle initially in IDW issue 50, he isnt violent to her, and even saves her from another badnik. This is before Eggman says anything to Metal about Belle.

However, AFTER Eggman tells Metal not to harm Belle, Metal does the exact opposite. Before now, he wasn't bothered by her, but when she stands in the way of Sonic, and Eggman makes a big deal out of her, he gets upset, and he attacks her.

Metal Sonic feels like he's perpetually inadequate, and there are so many things that you can do with this. Since the moment the IDW comics started, Metal Sonic was being built up to have an arc about his insecurities. The fact that he's had that moment in the 2020 annual, and it was never brought back up DOES mean something. In the Spring Broken 2024 annual, Silver has an arc about gardening, and it's actually been at least slightly mentioned afterwards. So why is Metal's struggle with identity never specifically brought back up?

After all this subtle build up, I'm personally really hoping that Metal Sonic will have importance in the upcoming IDW issues. He has so much potential, and it feels wasted to give us little snippets of him, and never more than that. It's been a long time since Metal Sonic was a truly threatening villain, and I think they are actually building up to a cool Metal Sonic event, I just can't say what. (yes, it could be the 4th sonic movie, but i hope its something else as well) I would love for sonic content to explore new ideas for Metal Sonic's story.

My ranking of each Rouge variant in Sonic Prime.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for the animated series "Sonic Prime". English is not my native language, so I apologize if my English isn't the best.

Honorable mention - Grim Rouge.

I don't know if I should include the robotic version of Rouge on the list, but I'll mention it here because it's the least I can do. Anyway, the most I can say is that I like the design. I believe the designs of the Grims (and their troops) are really cool and an interesting interpretation of the Metal versions.

4 - Prime Rouge.

I'm only putting the main version of Rouge in fourth place because we don't see much of her in the series. She served to deliver the information about the Paradox Prism, and that's it, but I'll admit, the interaction between her and Sonic in Tails' garage was a little funny.

Now, I'm going to talk about the character design, because I believe it's the most interesting topic to discuss. I don't know if many people hated this design when the series launched because it covered Rouge's body, but I believe some people might not have liked it because of that. I'll try to be honest, I don't hate the outfit itself; I think it's an interesting alternative outfit for Rouge to wear, and I think it works as a more "stealth" outfit, if you know what I mean. I'm not a fan of how Rouge's neck looks in the outfit; I think it looks strange, and that's the only thing that bothers me a little about the outfit. Oh, and I think the colors and details look good on the outfit too.

3 - Prim Rouge.

Regarding the wild version of Rouge, I honestly think her story and broken friendship with Thorn Rose were interesting to see, even if it was somewhat simple and sometimes a bit slow. I don't have much to say, I like that she tried to use Sonic at the beginning and it shows her opportunistic side, I just wish there was more, because sometimes I even forget that she's supposed to be a variant of Rouge.

Regarding the character design, I think it's the design I like the least among the variants, honestly. I like that Prim hardly uses any purple and the paint on her face is something different, I think it looks nice. I'm not a fan of seeing the characters' hands without gloves, I think it looks strange most of the time. Like, it makes sense that some of them don't have gloves because they're in a wild era, but it's something I really don't like.

2 - Batten Rouge.

This pirate version of Rouge is quite strange to me, because I like her charisma and personality in general, but I feel we missed a great opportunity to use Batten as a rival to Dread. First, the design is okay, nothing special, and it fits with pirates in general. I find the character charismatic most of the time, as I said before, and her accent is funny sometimes.

Now, my biggest problem with this variant is that I think the writers should have used her as the Captain who usurped Dread because he became a coward in capturing the Paradox Prism. Like, she's a pirate variant of Rouge, how come she doesn't have a bigger role than she was given in the series?! It would have been an interesting interpretation of the "rivalry" between Knuckles and Rouge, because Rouge wants to steal the Master Emerald and Knuckles wants to protect it; we could have had something where two pirates became rivals and both try to capture the same Prism. And also, I never liked that the pirates who usurped Dread were a bunch of nobodies; Batten should have been the usurper and become the new captain, it would have been amazing to see.

1 - Rebel Rouge.

I'll get straight to the point, I like Rebel Rouge's design, I think it fits the universe she's in. I just wish it had a little more purple, because her flashback showed that her outfit used to be a bit more purple before the Chaos Council arrived and destroyed her home.

Regarding the character, I find it interesting that she went down a completely different path from the Rouge we know, because she was supposed to be the world's greatest thief, a rebel who doesn't care about the rules and the consequences that come after her. However, Rebel Rouge is quite different, because she's still a rebel and tries to break the rules set by the Chaos Council, but still tries to bring something of value back to her group: freedom and the nature that was destroyed.

whole silver the hedgehog rant

Silver is actually a good written fun character and he has so much potential to have so many interactions with the others characters and fans completely forgot his actual personality from 06 and make him a completely different character

Like give me sparring buddies knuckles and silver or friendly rivals or sonic annoying silver like brothers keeps bugging his sibling and shadow being the one who balances silver's hot headedness and quick to head first

Uhhh Rant on debunking the Robotnik Family trope/hc, mostly because I've been called an incest liker for shipping metadow

Sonic fans need to realise that Shadow isn't related to Ivo (or Gerald, for that matter), or Ivo's five billion creations. Creation ≠ offspring/child. Otherwise Ivo would be a father of billions who sends his kids to war to get killed daily. Despite apparently program his robots to see him as a "fatherly figure" does not see Metal Sonic, or any of his robots other than Sage, as family, despite refering to himself as Metal's "daddy" and "papa". He sees Metal as a tool. Perhaps more like a "guard dog" with a shock collar that he can command and control. The only reason Ivo keeps him around is because he's a breadwinner. It's unclear whether Metal sees Ivo as a parental figure or not, but judging by most media, where he seeks out approval of his accomplishments and attempts from Ivo, it's likely he does. While it's not been touched on YET, I don't believe Metal Sonic will view Sage as a sibling, but as unwanted authority. Ivo only calls Orbot and Cubot Sage's brothers because it's what she wants to hear.

And back to Shadow, Shadow only had a familial bond, that is stated, with Maria. While he may have looked up to Gerald upon his inital creation, the events of SA2, with Gerald tampering with Shadow's memories in order to attempt to destroy the planet, Shadow would resent him for that, and seperate himself from him. And in the true ending of Shadow The Hedgehog 2005, Shadow is seen throwing away a photograph of Gerald and Maria, supposedly moving on from them. (Why Sonic Team insists on bringing them up again is beyond me) While it kind of makes sense that they show up in Shadow Generations, being from Shadow's past and all, the writing sets Shadow back on his development. He has supposedly accepted and moved on from what happened on the ARK, but still wants to warn Gerald and Maria about the ARK incident? Okay but when has Shadow's writing ever been consistent. "But Gerald calls Shadow "son" in Shadow gens!" That literally means nothing. In that era especially, it was common for elderly men to address younger men a s "son." Even I get called "son" by older men I don't know. And in Sonic Racing Crossworlds, Shadow says to Sage that he no longer affiliates himself with the Robotnik Family, saying that he left that part of himself behind, and that Sage should do too.

Also why would Shadow willingly view Ivo as part of his family anyway. Sorry for ruining your fanon headcanon.

okay so like… imma say something maybe perhaps perchance controversial and hot-takey relating to sonic. and i’ve wanted to say this for awhile but didnt wanna get canceled becus it’s something that’s sorta difficult to convey through text…

i remember seeing a year or two ago that quite a few people thought shadamy was wrong simply becus amy reminded shadow of maria in SA2. so basically implying that like if amy is reminiscent of maria, this “inherently” means that shadow thinks of her also as his sibling of sorts.

but i honestly think this way of thinking isn’t correct. if you think about this in any context rather than this fandom then my point will be simpler to understand. for example, you can think to yourself “wow my partner has similar traits to {insert person here} in my family” WITHOUT thinking of them as the same person. acknowledging a parallel in personality should not be off limits when comparing someone you share romantic love with and someone you share platonic love with in my opinion, unless you’re the one constantly choosing to say/act upon that fact in an intentionally weird way.

we also don’t really know *exactly* what shadow was thinking in this exact moment, other than the fact that amy’s kind words changed his perspective and motives, which was the main point of that cutscene overall. it could very well be possible that shadow is experiencing some form of underdeveloped love for amy in that moment, but even he doesn’t know what kinda of love that may be becus he’s spent his whole life just traumatized and not exposed to relationship and friendship status quo of the outside world.

and may i remind you that shadamy is not the only ship to do this… so that argument really doesn’t even work?!? sonadow, probably the most popular ship ever in sonic, does this too. that official japanese art/story with shadow looking at the blue shoes references the parallels between sonic and maria i believe, along with MANY fan works i see regularly.

i’m glad the shift in shadamy has become apparent after TMOSTH and the twitter takeovers. i honestly change my opinion quite frequently between seeing this ship as more platonic or more romantic, but i wanted to still defend it nonetheless becus i find it quite ridiculous how much backlash it got for the stupidest things.

and in case this wasn’t clear- I DONT SUPPORT INCEST AND THIS POST IS NOT TRYING TO EXCUSE INCEST IN ANY WAY. i really just think that characters can be more complex than some people initially interpret them and so to quickly shame others based on these conclusions feels very odd to me.
