- You and Dewey met when your family moved into the house neighboring to the one of the Riley family

- You both were five years old at the time, both about to enter the first grade and both very unfamiliar with the whole concept of school

- Your parents moved around a lot because of their jobs so they never enrolled you into kindergarten, hindering you from becoming as social as you probably should've been at that age

- Dewey wasn't much different, he himself was a very shy kid that rarely got along with the other kids in the neighborhood

- In his defense, they were all straight up hooligans that knew nothing better than getting into trouble

- That's another thing you and Dewey had in common: being rule-followers and overall goody-two-shoe's

- It's those very similarities that brought you two close when you started school, turning you both into chatter boxes around one another

- You had plenty of the same interests and loved the same cartoons or comic books etc. which left you with an endless supply of things to talk about

- Over time you started breaking free from your shell and attempted to help Dewey make new friends as well

- Even to this day you’re the more social one between you two

- When you were both eight, Tatum was born and you rascals were overjoyed

- Baby Tatum was already annoyed by you and Dewey since day one and that never changed

- Not when you babysat her as a toddler, not when you’d drop her off and pick her up from the local kindergarten or from school, not in her teenage years

- Never

- And when I say she was annoyed by you, I mean it in the best way possible

- She loved you like a sibling and always preferred you as a babysitter, knowing she could get away with more stuff if you were on the watch

- It’s not your fault you couldn’t say no when she gave you that tear-filled gaze and a pouty lip

- She also preferred talking to you about personal stuff like crushes and boyfriends while she turned to Dewey for help with school stuff

- It’s not like you couldn’t help her with that too but there had to be a balance in the dynamic somehow

- You remember all the times you’d wake up with her cuddled up next to you on the couch that was declared yours anytime you’d sleep over

- There were no questions asked: if Tatum had a bad dream, you were the one she’d go to, that is if you were in the house of course

- And when a bad dream, a downright nightmare became a reality, you couldn’t bare the fact that you weren’t there to protect her from it

- You couldn’t and still can’t forgive yourself for not being there, not that you could’ve known any of what was about to go down at that house that night anyway

- But still, you forced yourself to put on a brave face in front of Dewey who was light years more crushed than you were

- You were his shoulder to cry on while you cried into your pillow at night

- You were the pillar, he was the softie

- And he’d probably still be down in the dumps, or at least be doing a lot worse than he currently is if you weren’t there for him

- That’s why you’ve sworn to be by him every step of the way that you can

- Every time he’d want or need you there, you’d be by his side

- You were the one who first found out about his interest in Gale Weathers

- And you were also probably the first person to turn the tables on the reporter, asking her questions she wasn’t too keen on answering

- But you knew better than yo let her off the hook so easily

- You couldn’t let just anyone date your best friend

- You are as picky with his partners as he is with yours

- He’s probably got a point, though, you do have a bad taste in romantic partners

- You were also the first one to hit him square in the face with the fact that he was in love with the woman but he found it absurd

- And not even a week later he asked you to help him plan the proposal so...absurd my ass

- Needless to say, you had the chance to witness the proposal and be there for the first-hand experience of just how anxious Dewey can get when faced with a big upcoming event aka their wedding

- It reminded you a lot of the time he was about to accept his deputy star and official badge, he was sweating buckets all throughout the ceremony

- At least this time he managed to keep that bodily function under control as him and Gale exchanged their vows and were proclaimed husband and wife

- You were sitting front row on the groom’s side, hating your seating position because it left you with no way to hide the fact that you were tearing up

- And yes, you did tell yourself you wouldn’t do such a thing but alas you did

- And yes, Dewey noticed but luckily, in that moment, he couldn’t exactly tease you about it

- But don’t worry, Sidney, who was sitting next to you, did it for him

- Her and you had gotten closer over the last year with you having officially joined her protection squad 

- She handed you a tissue, “Never pegged you for a crybaby.”

- “Zip it, Prescott, you’re crying too.”

- Yeah, you were both crying which automatically brought tears to the groom and bride’s eyes as well

- You didn’t feel sorry though

- You wanted Dewey to know how proud you were and always have been of him, how happy you are for him and Gale and how quickly you’d sacrifice your own happiness for his

- You’ve neve been to vocal about loving people, but you showed it in your actions, and in this situation, your tears were more than enough to send your message across

I apologize for that outburst...I got a little to excited for my OTP but hell fucking yeah! Enjoy the headcanons darling 💕

Pairing: Gale Weathers x Dwight - Dewey Riley

NOTE: I’ve only seen the first two movies so any inaccuracies regarding the latter movies may please be excused :)

- Gale is a busy woman with a whole of ambition and it doesn't take a detective or even a deputy to figure that out

- One only needs to take one look at the woman

- Unfortunately for her boyfriend, the deputy mentioned above, that workaholic nature of hers often leads to her missing out on stuff in her own life while chasing other people's stories

- He’s wisely decided to stay out of it and not bug her because that would result in an acute case of a passive aggressive Gale

- And boy does that version of her scare him

- This year was their first Valentine’s Day spent as an official couple and not some on-and-off romance 

- That’s mainly why Dewey gave into his wishful thinking and called in to get a day off from work so he could spend it with Gale 

- It didn’t take him long to notice that she couldn’t be bothered with any Valentine’s Day shenanigans though, she was chasing after a big story and couldn’t find the time for it

- But Dewey knew she’d feel guilty if he brought it up

- She hates forgetting important dates and events that clearly mean a lot to her boyfriend

- They mean a lot to her too but she’s only human with only so much mind to pay to so many things

- She can’t keep track of everything and despite knowing this she still feels bad when something like this slips her by

- Dewey didn’t really feel like standing around the house feeling the loneliness set in so he showed up at the station to finish some paperwork and get his mind off things

- Little did he know that only a bit more patience is what would’ve taken for the whole day to turn around

- That’s because, on her way to grab a cup of coffee in the kitchen, Gale passed by the calendar hanging on the wall next to the fridge

- She suddenly remembered what date it was

- And damn if she didn’t feel like climbing into that fridge and hiding there the rest of her life

- If only she had paid closer attention to Dewey’s behavior, she thought she would’ve noticed there was something special about today

- Regardless of how late the realization struck her, it wasn’t too late

- And that damn story wouldn’t take off running if she let it sit on its own for a few hours, would it?

- Let me tell you, those ‘few’ hours - which added up to exactly four and a half hours - were well worth being away from her computer

- It was refreshing for Gale to be doing something other than running around with a microphone or typing away at her keyboard

- It was fulfilling knowing she’d get to spend at least the evening with the puppy-eyed town deputy who she only now realizes she’s been paying zero to no mind to in the past couple of weeks

- She doesn’t let the guilt dwell in her for long though as she continues following the recipe she begged Sidney to give her over the phone

- All the food was prepared, the table was set the candles were lit, the faint music from the radio was filling the room

- It was all perfect

- And then the sound of thunder following by the downpour of rain reminded Gale of the clothes she had drying out on the balcony

- She cursed to herself as she rushed up the stairs to rescue the dresses she had washed specifically to be worn in front of the camera

- In the meantime, unlike how she had planned it, Dewey discovered the set-up in the dining room and found himself frozen in place, now him being the one feeling guilty for leaving Gale alone for the special occasion

- But, people please, cut the man some slack, he had paperwork to do

- Just as he was about to sit down, Gale came downstairs in a dress she had carefully picked out to wear for the romantic dinner but was soaked the moment she stepped foot out on the balcony

- The deputy didn’t look any drier though

- “You look like a drowned rat.” Yeah, she still had the audacity to say that, snickering as she made her way to him

- “Oh? And since when do you take showers fully clothed.” He replied, welcoming her in his arms as she placed her hands on his chest, nuzzling her head in the crook of his neck

- “I was experimenting, just like I did with that food over there. If we get food poisoning we’ll be in the dumps together at least.” She giggled, hoping to God that she got the ingredient measurements right

- “You know what, Miss Weathers?” Dewey asked, kissing the top of her head, “I wouldn’t mind that at all. In fact I wouldn’t mind doing anything as long as I’d be doing it with you....for the rest of my life....”

- That last part caught her off-guard and she pulled away, looking up at him to try and discern what he was actually trying to say

- She didn’t get the chance to find the answer in his eyes before he got down on one knee in front of her

- That was enough of an answer all to itself

- “Gale Weathers, will you do me the honor of....”

- He didn’t get the honor of finishing the sentence, but he did get the honor of being tackled to the floor with Gale on top of him, peppering kisses his face

- “Yes, you dummy! Of course I will!”

- Who knows, maybe if Dewey hadn’t forgotten the ring at the station he would’ve psyched himself out

- But ‘what if’s are pointless in this situation

- We better start planning a wedding instead of thinking about that

Dewey Riley x Gale Weathers Riley [Scream - post Scream 4]

Warnings: SPOILERS for the first four Scream movies but especially for the forth one (2011), Mentions of death, blood and injuries; Description of a healing wound/scar, Insecurities, Swearing

It’s not the first time Gale has seen the scar on her shoulder in the mirror - in fact it’s all she ever looks at when gazing at her reflection - but it still manages to look worse and worse in her eyes every single time.

It’s no secret that Gale Weathers is a perfectionist about a lot of things and the most unorganized person ever about certain matters but her looks fall into the first category. The cleanliness of her and Dewey’s house, the chores, the state of their garden - all that and some other knacks like that fall into the latter one, but her appearance is certainly not on that list. She’s a perfectionist about it much like she is about her professionalism.

She can’t exactly complain, she’s always been a woman with a good figure and an exquisite taste in clothing and shoes, but there have been more than a few wrenches in her perception of herself.

Above all is her overly intense criticism and the fact she doesn’t let herself off the hook for anything. She’s stricter on herself than her parents ever were, she’s her own biggest critic and there is never an instance where she doesn’t question herself.

So it comes as no surprise that this scar has depleted her self-esteem drastically because, after all, it’s not something within her realm of control. 

And Gale Weathers feels the most hopeless when she’s not in control of something.

However, this time around, her insecurities seem to be multiplying like a cruel joke on her, most of which don’t even make sense: the top of the list being her fear that her husband will no longer find her attractive.

Yes, that probably sounded absurd and like absolute nonsense to you as much as to anyone else who would hear her say such a thing but in her mind it’s a valid fear and a likely possibility.

He’s the only person other than herself whose opinion she values and the sheer thought of him thinking of her any less or looking at her with pity in his eyes crushes her.

She can’t help but think of Judy - a woman practically throwing herself in his arms if he were to give her the slightest bit of attention outside of the work relationship they need to have established. Of course, Gale doesn’t think Judy’s any better than her, she’s still the same person after all and she never underestimates herself but she can’t help but let her mind wander.

And if she looks even further back, knowing it’s wrong, she can’t not think about Jennifer who had Dewey wrapped around her little finger so easily.

Gale will admit to the jealousy now despite her refusal to do so a decade ago but she’s found the maturity to succumb to the fact that she’s allowed to feel what she feels. But apart from that aforementioned worm of jealousy that was eating away at her, she also felt hurt, deeply hurt.

Never before had she thought that Dewey had taken the time to analyze her to the bottom of her very soul. That in and of itself would’ve been fine, delightful even, but to call her a ‘lost and lonely little girl’ in front of Jennifer Jolie of all people - that fucking stung and made her feel betrayed.

She wishes he had been wrong though because now, looking in the bathroom mirror in their shared house, she sees the cracks in herself revealing that lost and lonely little girl. That scared kid within her is peering at her, bringing her to the verge of shattering the reflective glass.

Luckily, that’s exactly when Dewey walks in.

“Sorry to barge in but you’ve been in here for the past thirty minutes and I gotta be up early tomorrow morning and-“ He abruptly cuts himself off when he notices the ridged motion of Gale’s arm as it comes up to unclip her long hair so it can fall over her shoulders and cover up the marking on her skin she finds so disgusting to look at and sees it as a lessening of her worth.

“No, no, it’s ok, I was just about to get out....“ She trails off, hand caressing the skin at the nape of her neck - a nervous tick she’s picked up on over the years - before heading towards the door.

She doesn’t make it far before Dewey’s hand takes gentle hold of her arm, holding her in place but not forcing her to turn around since her body language has made it abundantly clear that she really doesn’t feel like facing him right now.

“Something is clearly not ok, Gale.“ He speaks softly, his voice barely above a whisper as if that will be encouraging enough for her to face him. “What is it? What’s wrong?“

They’ve both mutually decided that the question of ‘what’s wrong?/what’s the matter?’ makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and comes off as genuinely ridiculous when you take into consideration the crap they’ve gone through throughout the years.

But still, when they exchange it amongst themselves, it’s got a deeper meaning than that surface that people usually scrape when using the question. When they say it, it’s meant to delve into each other’s soul and find what’s the deeper matter.

And that’s what’s currently scaring Gale so freaking much.

“How about the fact that I nearly fell victim to a lowlife, fame-hungry teenager?!“ She sneers, the attempt to sound angry rather than hurt crumbling when she turns around for Dewey to see the tears running down her cheeks. Ones she angrily wipes away with her free arm, “Or maybe the fact that I almost lost you...again, for I don’t know which time in a row! Or maybe that I’m losing my sense of self in this forsaken town! Or maybe that I fear you’re starting to get sick of me!“

The other things she said fazed him only minorly - they were things he had expected. To think that a pair of dimwit teenagers nearly took the two of them and Sidney out is enough to make their ego plummet to unspeakable levels. 

He shares the second point - he couldn’t fathom the thought of possibly losing her, ever. But as the blood rushed out of her wound he could feel his own life drain out of his body. He knows exactly what she felt cause he felt it too.

He’s known her discontent with her life for a little over a year now. He’s offered her solutions to her loneliness, lack of inspiration and motivation. He’s tried to be at home more often and be there for her. But she always reassured him that he wasn’t the problem, that their relationship was fine and she liked them just the way they were. He could do nothing for her in that field when she herself was tying his hands and incapacitating him to help her.

But that last sentence gutted him more painfully than even the sharpest blade ever could.

It’s unlike anything he’d imagine coming out of Gale’s mouth. She’s always been a pinnacle of confidence and boldness and he’s always thought that he isn’t deserving of her. Never did he think she would be thinking the same but reversed. 

“W-What?“ He’s stunned, beyond so, and that’s the only word he can utter in this moment. It’s gonna take him a lot longer to wrap his brain around her claim.

But he doesn’t get that time of day when Gale sniffles out a significantly weaker reply, “You heard me. At some point you’ll start resenting me completely. I mean, I had my looks going for me at least, but now I don’t even have that branch to grab onto!”

That seems to be the slap to the face he was waiting for because he can finally form a full sentence. A strong one at that, “For someone who makes so much sense, you’re scaring me with this absurd crap, Gale. First of all, I could never resent you! No matter what! I can’t think of a single thing that could make me love you even a little less, let alone make me resent you! If you think your appearance is what got you a spot in my heart, you’re more than a little mistaken. I’m not gonna lie, I was a shallow 25-year-old who fell head over heels for a hot news reporter, but that was only during the first few minutes of knowing you! When I got to know you, that’s when I wasn’t dragging my jaw on the floor like a hormonal teenager, but I had to count my breaths to still my heart in your presence because you made me so nervous. You made me want to impress you. You are so intelligent, ambitious...you made me want to be like you or to be someone you might like. I couldn’t believe you, Gale Weathers Riley, would be interested in a small-town cop who wasn’t taken seriously at the time by anyone.“ His hand slider up to her forearm, the other one copying the movements to take hold of her other arm and bring her closer to him, a beckoning which she obliges without a struggle. However, her head continues to hang low, prompting him to gently tilt her chin back with his finger. 

Looking into his glossed eyes, a small smile spreads across her face, even through the tears that continue spilling out - tears she’s held back for far too long, “Guess you weren’t too far off with that claim of me being a ‘lost and lonely little girl’, huh? I’m not a crier and you know this but, a lot’s piled up...”

Dewey scoffs, more to himself than to her. “I can’t believe you still remember that. I said it in a fit of frustration that stemmed from how much I missed you while you....you seemed to be doing so well without me.“

The woman shakes her head with a frown, “I wasn’t doing well, Dewey. How could I?! I’m good at play-pretend, if that’s what you’re getting at, but I was most certainly not happier without you. Not happier than I would’ve been with you. I mean, look at me! I’m crying over the thought of you ditching me in a distant future. Whether that be my unbearable personality, or this nasty-ass scar or whatever other reason my head will produce....I can’t imagine my world without you in it, Dewey. I’m sorry I ever made you think otherwise.”

His hands gently cup her face, the tightening in his chest loosening ever so slightly when she leans into his touch instead of making an attempt to pull away. “And I’m sorry for ever making you feel like you were too much for me or like I could ever stop loving you. Your personality isn’t unbearable, Gale. Sure, you can exhaust a person into agreeing with you...” this gets a small laugh out of her, “...but we’ve been married for a decade, if I haven’t gotten used to that yet, then it’s my fault, not yours. And, that scar...” one of his hands lets go of her cheek to be able to move her hair over her shoulder, revealing the scar that she despised so much and fought blood and fire to keep him from seeing. “This scar is proof of who you are, Gale - you’re a fighter. A stubborn, fearless, selfless fighter when the situation calls for it. It’s more you than anything I can think of. It’s proof that no matter what, you’ll always be you, doing things your way and figuring things out on your own. Now that is one of the many reasons you now own my heart.”

With that, Dewey leans down, his lips pressing a gentle kiss on the scar, feeling Gale’s muscles relax as a result of it. He peppers kisses, a trail of them in fact, up her neck and along her jaw till their lips connect in a passionate, loving kiss which has the Sheriff forgetting he’s gotta be up early tomorrow morning.

All either of them can think of right now is what they manage to mumble as they break up the kiss for air.

“I love you, Dewey.“

“I love you more.“

Before she can argue, which he’s sure she will, her lips are connected to his yet again, silencing and complaint, making her forget anything else much like he already has.

Just watched Scream 4 and holy shit is it a step up from the third movie! I thoroughly enjoyed it and even liked some of the new characters! Anyone want to request a little somethin’-*somethin’?
