“I was right to hand them over…wasn’t I?”“Of course,” their sidekick reassured them. “[Villain] is evil. They deserve what’s coming to them.”“Do they? Really?”“Yes.”“How can you be so sure?”

“Here to get me out?”The hero shook their head. “Just to visit.”“Well, that doesn’t do either of us any good. Just makes you feel worse and me suffer more.”“…suffer?”“What do you think happens to defenseless, powerless supervillains in prison? It’s not exactly a walk in the park.”

“They’re in the Hole. That’s it. It’s all finished. We’ll never have to see them again.”The thief stared unseeing into the distance. “You say that like it’s a good thing.”“It is! …Isn’t it? Isn’t it?!”

The villain’s smile was almost, almost soft with pity. “This is the third visit this week.”“I need to- need to check you’re still here. Still, um, imprisoned, and-”“You’re worried,” they cut in. “It’s okay, I won’t shame you for it. We all know what happened to [supervillain] in here, what the pain turned them into. I don’t blame you for checking the same isn’t happening to me. In fact, I’m grateful for it.”

The hero crossed their arms. “You’re lying. You’re faking it, acting, something-”The villain rasped out a laugh. “You can think what you like, hero. When I die of thirst in here, you’ll know the truth. There will be no way for you to lie to yourself anymore.”

The villain’s lover sobbed on the hero’s doorstep, crumpled at their feet. “Please, please, just one visit. Just one. I swear, I’ll never speak to you again, never look at you, never ask for anything. I just need to see them, to- to say goodbye. Please, they’re the only person I have in the world. I’m begging you, I’ll give you anything-”

Hi!! I was just wondering what era the humans are in roughly? As in, how advanced they are and what their fashion is like?

Hoo boy time for the history nerds to crawl up my butt I guess. 

I’m thinking early 19th century? The industrial revolution is basically just starting for the humans, but since the story itself happens pretty far away from the center of human civilization, it’s not really touched upon that much. 

As for fashion, it’s sort of Regency-ish? Except women can wear pants and men’s pants don’t look like That™.

Foxes, veils and gold!

They say that if you need something desperately and have the means to pay,  duck through the winding alleys of the marketplace until you are very nearly lost, turn right at the sign of the fox, and open the door that’s nearly painted over. There will be a screen at the back of the room, veiling whoever’s behind it, but you will hear breathing, see movement. 

“What do you need?” the person will ask. Let’s say that you have asked for love.

“What do you have to give?” the person will ask. Let’s say that you are wealthy, that you offer money. “No. Solid gold, in jewelry, I’ll accept. Leave it here in front of the screen when your wish comes true, or suffer the consequences.”

Let’s say that you nod, that you swallow, that you leave feeling foolish. And then you are out and about and you see a grinning fox on a hillside, and it snaps at a horse’s heels and makes the horse rear, the pretty lady on top of the horse shrieking and grabbing at it. A fox tail brushes against the back of your legs and you are running to help, to soothe. 

The lady is grateful. The lady is kind, and brave, and she laughs so loud and free that it makes you smile to think of it, and she thinks you are very charming, even as you fumble with your words and smile like a fool.

You leave gold jewelry at the foot of the screen with a heart full of love and gratitude.

Let’s say you glance over your shoulder as you leave, just in time to see a delicate red paw reach out to the jewelry from behind the screen.

Write out notes for what you find difficult - I have a post on note-taking here!

For stuff you find less difficult, write out quick notes by using mind-maps/flashcards etc.

Do past paper questions, these are the best way to understand what’s going to come up on the test and also for practice

Read and re-read your textbooks! But make sure you’re actively reading! There’s posts about it here!

Make sure to take breaks when you’re studying! 

Don’t panic!! It won’t help! You’ll be fine :)

How do you deal with feeling jealous of your friends? (Even through you're really happy for them!!)

I’ve sat on this ask for a little while to make sure I could answer it well. I want to start off by saying that (imo) everyone occasionally feels jealous of someone they love and admire, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of! intrusive thoughts and feelings affect a lot of people with mental health issues, and just because you have them doesn’t mean they define you. feeling jealous does not make you a bad person, it’s what you do with that emotion that counts

recognise the jealousy for what it is. the second I get that uncomfortable wriggling in my gut I stop, and ask myself what’s causing it. am I actually uncomfortable with the content/tone of something in a legitimate way, or am I just a bit jealous? or have I been eating too many biscuits again lmaoo

step away. never let yourself project your jealousy onto the other person, especially in a space they can see it! if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all -it will be better for you, them, and your friendship. remember, the jealousy is fundamentally your problem to solve, not theirs!

talk the feeling through with yourself, or maybe an unconnected party. there’s probably an underlying reason (maybe your own project has been having a hard time recently, maybe they were your protegee/equal and now they’ve shot past you, maybe your self-worth is tangled up in follower/note counts) and it can really help you understand the feeling if you can hunt down the root of the jealousy

do some self reflection on the root cause, and see if you can remedy it. this will not only help you out by hopefully solving an underlying issue, but also decrease the incidences of that nasty jealous feeling

go back to your friend! celebrate with them! don’t say anything you’re not feeling, but a ‘I’m so happy for you!!’ will probably be true and supportive! if it’s a one-off feeling, this may be relatively easy to do, but if it’s a longer term issue you may need to take a longer step back before you can join in

I really hope this helps, jealousy is an uncomfortable and tricky beast to deal with, but I know you can do it with grace and good faith! good luck!! 💚💚

How do you manage to do everything you do without getting overwhelmed? Or how do you manage that feeling and work through it?

damn, can’t believe you nailed my life in two sentences.

you pretty much landed smack-dab on it with that second part. I’m pretty much always overwhelmed. it’s a combination of wanting to do everything in life, signing up to too many responsibilities, and needing 8+ hours sleep. of course there’s always someone doing more, but I feel comfortable in saying I definitely do a lot.

I wouldn’t say I cope so much as prioritise. applying for a summer job? necessity. watching she-ra season 2? luxury. doing the washing up? necessity. brutally speaking, writing books and prompts? luxury. everything can be categorised as either a necessity or a luxury, and necessities always come first.  a l w a y s.

of course, if I have some free time (like I do at the moment, yay!) I begin to order my luxuries in order of how much I want to do them. for example, in this block of free time I have

finished editing TSE

finished a short story

started plotting WaD

queued a whole bunch of prompts

started making promo materials for WaD

watched one whole episode of She-Ra!

of course, I’m lucky in that I have (comparatively) solid mental health and semi-decent physical health, and the stubborn grit of a northerner. if it needs doing, I’ll do it.

very many people cannot or will not live under that philosophy and they have every right. a lot of my irl friends do think I’m mad! they can’t comprehend that I never take a mental health day, or the evening/weekend off. my method definitely isn’t for everyone. some people need a steady supply of luxuries to make life worth living. some people need to use their luxuries as rewards for doing jobs they were dreading. it’s all a matter of personality and needs and wants and a hundred other complexities.

tl;dr I manage feeling overwhelmed by powering through everything I have to do, no matter how long it takes, in order of priority. afterwards, if I have time, I do the same for my luxuries. it’s really really not a method for everyone, but it works for me 😘💖
