14th Century Alchemy Notebook

This was a project that I did for a class I took on the history of alchemy. The notebook is designed based on certain Coptic techniques as well as a medieval loose binding that I saw while in training as a bookbinder and printing assistant.

My concept for the project was that, as an alchemist who had traveled between different areas of the Middle East and Mediterranean and seen many types of scrolls and books in that time, I had cobbled together a notebook using various inspirations.

i made these to hand out at this weekends medieval reenactment event to increase baseline chaos levels and encourage mischief

Worked on the bee cloak embroidery a little and also did a practice test for a scroll idea

I do wish I had better control of ink thickness

Dropped off the three colored scroll printouts I did today, and my vicereine (baron for you non-crown-province scadians) immediately lured me into taking four more. The thing is, the East has a tradition of actual hand drawn scrolls much moreso than printouts, so I feel slightly traitorous doing these, but also, coloring books are fun. Watercolors on a printout does not require me to turn my brain back on after a long day at work.

I feel like the right compromise here would be for me to design my own reusable line art, maybe with a few sections that can be randomized. But guess what. That needs focus. And I, person of limited focus that I am, need to be making clothes for Pennsic.

I do understand why she wants me to keep doing these though.

Got myself some dip pens and ink, and I am learning a gothic script (littera textualis quadrata). So far I suck at controlling the amount of ink flowing out of the pen, but I don't suck at making the letter forms.

I'm having fun :)

Being nonverbal, being nonscribal, is permanent state

Example, have speech loss episode not mean "go nonverbal", one not able temporary enter permanent state

Verbalflux/scribalflux mean ability change, ability speak fluctuates, ability write/understand words fluctuates

It is permanent state of fluidity, NOT "sometimes I verbal/scribal, sometimes I nonverbal/nonscribal" - it harmful to claim to have experience not have, harmful to say you non-xyz when you not

Foxy NOT "semiscribal/nonscribal sometimes", Foxy only unable to write/type clear sometimes - it is different, even if sound similar

Different level/state

Because Foxy not 24/7 permanent state of ability to write, Foxy not that permanent state (ie scribal or nonscribal ect)

Please remember and respect people of permanent state
