I'm Nicolò (he/they)! My SCA journey began in 2025, after I attended fencing demonstrations in my local Barony that made me decide that I wanted to learn this method of swordplay.

My background is as a historian, and I am a working researcher in my field of study. I hold a BA in Art History with a minor in Print, Paper, & Book Arts. Currently, I'm working on a BA in History with a double minor in Religious Studies and Esoteric & Occult Traditions, with a certificate in Jewish Studies.

Possibly used as a votive item, found near the border of France and Germany

A pair of silver coins minted in England, circa 1000, which were made to protect the owner from Vikings raids.

The coins were found in a Viking grave in Denmark. The Vikings punched holes in them and made them into necklaces.

so metropolitan museum of art has a register of books they’ve published that are out of print and that you can download for free! they’re mostly books on art, archeology, architecture, fashion and history and i just think that’s super useful and interesting so i wanted to share! you can find all of the books available here!

Making some pendants out of scraps of leather I had leftover from a different project.

I need to decide what to stamp on them, probably something simple. And I already have some leather cord I can use for them, plus some beads to string onto the cord to make these into really cohesive necklaces!

The tent is up!

This is a vevor 16.5 ft bell tent (it's gone up in price since I bought it but it's pretty reasonable value for money) painted with latex exterior house paint, the cheapest stuff they had at menards. I used a folding foam mattress on top of the four storage bins my gear was packed in as a cot--quite comfy and practical; I'm going to cut a sheet of plywood as a bin topper and do that again for sure. The guyline shorteners are just sections of 2x2 furring strips, cut and painted. There's documentation on the process for nearly all of this here already.

This is half the price of my "knight's tent" (a 3x3meter mini pavilion), comes with it's own poles (2 instead of having to make 9 of them myself), and is so much easier to set up (i helped Bonwicke set one up at War of the Rams, it was so fast, and honestly i think i could do one solo)

Fine. I GUESS I'm gonna buy another tent. The knight tent will be relegated to vending events only.

At the medieval fair today, there was a table set up to advertise local leatherworking classes. As part of their demonstration, attendees were invited to use stamping tools to decorate a bracelet.

This is the one I made:

I used a scale stamp, but offset it so that the heart shape was more apparent. Probably the fastest I've ever had to stamp leather! I like how it turned out.

Today I attended a medieval fair that was put on by the local comic and sci-fi/fantasy convention (the same convention that the Barony of Ruantallan always tables at).

The enamel pin is the fair's logo. I also got some medieval beast stickers!

I also bought this beautiful brass bracelet from a local blacksmith, and an iron arrowhead necklace:

And as I was leaving, I was gifted a "plague-carrying" rat. I honestly love the gimmick, it's a great way to get people to engage with the event!

Statuette of St. George (Munich Residence Treasury)

The statuette was made to house a relic of St George that Archbishop Ernst of Cologne sent in 1586 to his brother Duke Wilhelm V of Bavaria.

In the seventeenth century, the statuette was displayed on important feast days on the altar of the Ornate Chapel in the Munich Residence.

The bearded face of the saint behind the movable visor is carved from boxwood and resembles that of the man who commissioned the statuette, Duke Wilhelm V.

Kickstarter removed my highest funding tier so I lost £11k of funding since earlier today.

BUT

I’ve managed to get the deadline extended in light of this. So this might still happen!
