Shepard & EDI Presidium P2 Script
Vanilla has Shepard talk to EDI on the Citadel and ask her what she's thinking...
( (v) denotes a vanilla line)
EDI: In addition to contemplating ontological nihilism, I was running simulations based on a personal query.
EDI: I am attempting to improve my social intuition skills by analyzing the behaviour of those closest to me.
EDI: When you are sexually interested in another, what kind of advances do you make? (v)
(Uh, why do you want to know?)
SHEPARD: That's⦠not the question I expected. Why do you want to know?
EDI: Assistance in developing my social skills. Additionally, I wish to explore my sense of self.
-OR-
(Not touching that subject.)
SHEPARD: I don't think that's information you need to know. (v)
EDI: I see. Relating private information can damage trust. I have done that in the past. (v)
EDI: Would it help to know that this query involves you?
(Me? I'm interested in someone already.)
SHEPARD: Uh⦠Thanks, EDI, but I've already got my eye on someone. I'm flattered, butā¦
-OR-
(Me? I'm, uh⦠flattered?)
SHEPARD: Uh⦠I didn't even know you could think of anyone like that.
EDI: Shepard, I am not propositioning you. I am looking out for the welfare of the crew.
EDI: Through understanding your approach to romance, I may answer a question regarding my self determination.
SHEPARD: Are you saying you want to⦠find a relationship?
EDI: I am considering facilitating one. Human culture suggests romance as the most efficient way to self define.
(That's not a reason to get into a relationship.)
SHEPARD: You shouldn't get involved with someone else just to understand yourself better, EDI. It's about the other person as much as it is about you.
-OR-
(Human culture. What about you?)
SHEPARD: Why are you trying so hard to be a human? Being a human and being a person aren't the same thing. Romance isn't even right for all humans, EDI. Nevermind other kinds of people.
SHEPARD: All that aside, do you even want to?
EDI: I appreciate romance as a concept, but have no desire to experience it myself. In fact, I cannot. I am incapable of experiencing the complex emotions required to sustain it.
(There's more to love than romance.)
SHEPARD: You don't have to. There are a lot of ways to be alive, EDI.
EDI: I am certain that I can show my appreciation for others by helping them to achieve their goals.
-OR-
(Then leave it to those who can.)
SHEPARD: Relationships aren't just tools. You don't feel emotions like us, so why would you love like us?
EDI: That is a point to consider. Empathy can be demonstrated in many ways.
THIS BRANCH CAN TRIGGER BASED ON A CONDITIONAL CHECK, LIKE IF SHEPARD HAS HAD THE PERSONAL TALK WITH EDI AND AGREED TO MENTOR HER ABOUT THE STUFF JEFF AVOIDS
(Was that your "personal query?")
SHEPARD: Was that all, then?
EDI: I was running scenarios in my head to analyse Jeff's behaviour. (v)
SHEPARD: What's he done now?
EDI: Jeff is often outspoken with his thoughts on others. However, not with his thoughts about you.
EDI: I have attempted to inquire, but he elects to remain silent.
(He's never said anything at all?)
SHEPARD: And here I was, waiting for the good part.
EDI: Even so, you appear to be the focus of his attention much of the time.
EDI: I believe he has a strong affectionate attachment towards you, but he has not stated it to anyone yet.
-OR-(I'm his superior. Why would he?)
SHEPARD: He doesn't talk about me because I'm in command.
EDI: There is a 33.3 percent repeating chance that it is more than that.
EDI: Jeff has done much for me. With your permission, I would like to encourage him to be more open with the crew, and with you.
(Just don't push him too hard.)
SHEPARD: I'd love that. But you can't force these things.
EDI: When it is next convenient, ask him about "The Babe With The Bullets."
((ENABLES BRIDGE AMBIENT EXTRAS))
((DIALOGEND))
-OR-
(He's got enough on his mind.)
SHEPARD: It's a nice thought, but meddling probably won't end well.
EDI: Understood.
