Tired Scyllis with her dumb shirt and her cute mug.
Day 1 of Inktober! Started late on Tumblr, buuut I’ll upload the next couple together to catch it up with my other accounts. This one just doesn’t really fit the next two thematically, so I’m putting it on its own.
It’s another character for my Bootleggers project, since I haven’t added to that in a while. She’s a mermaid named Orca (gee I wonder why) who serves as the Leviathan Mafia’s giant powerhouse of an enforcer. As long as she’s present and guarding the city of Lawton’s waters, the harbor remains under the Leviathan Mafia’s thumb, and any boat that isn’t welcome is easily sunk.
In terms of gameplay concepts, Orca isn’t intended to be playable. She’d be a boss character fought specifically at the docks of the Lawton Harbor, where the dock would serve as the fight line and Orca could move around by swimming and emerging in different spots. I wanted Orca to be like those huge half-screen fighting game bosses, like MvC3′s Galactus, BlazBlue’s Takemikazuchi, and MvCI’s Ultron Omega, but with more mobility, so you’re not always just beating on the right side of the screen.
Got a new Samsung tablet recently, and wanted to break it in by doodling some Bootleggers characters on a mobile drawing app. Still getting used to drawing on mobile, and I tried a few different approaches with these drawings. It’s fun though, and i like having a digital drawing option away from my desktop.
Inktober Day 4. A crossover doodle with Scyllis from my Bootleggers work, and Aeronwen, a tiefling who belongs to my friend @cynicalstith! Check her stuff out, she’s amazing. Aeron’s normally a D&D character for a medieval fantasy setting, but there’s a cool formal wear pic of her and my friend’s other tieflings that I thought would fit nicely with my Bootleggers characters.
Aeron’s got a pet pygmy wyvern, and Scyllis kiiinda has a pet in the form of shadowy wolf tendrils attached to her lower back. So I figured they’d go well in a little bar counter scene together.
Some chibis of my Bootleggers project characters, that maaay get made into acrylic charms or something someday. Pretty much all of these characters have been introduced before, except the lizard girl ballet dancer--that’s Imori. Imori and the witch/noble pair, Mary & Sybil, are characters made up by @jabeanie, with Sybil specifically designed by her! Thanks again! Your characters are pretty much just as much a part of the Bootleggers family as my own!
Another Bootleggers character, the big don of the Leviathan Mafia, Scyllis, the scylla. Originally, the Leviathan Mafia was run by a family of serpentine lamia, but Scyllis's father staged a coup that moved the ruling power to his scylla family. Scyllis is the first inheritor to continue her father's new line of scylla dons in the Leviathan Mafia, and has much to prove as a boss worthy of leading.
Gameplay-wise, Scylla is a mid to long range hybrid between a zoner and grappler, a powerful combination offset by her near pitiful mobility. Instead of relying on mobility to close the gap, her tentacles and wolves can perform long range grabs that can force her opponent into disadvantageous situations, where Scyllis can use her mid-range tools to deal big damage. For those who are familiar, her gameplay takes inspiration from characters like Amane from Blazblue and Kan-Ra from Killer Instinct (though less from his traps and more from his normals and command grab).
(Re-did this post because the previous version was a mobile upload that went screwy)
Scyllis The Thief
The Thief:
Scyllis is in charge of retrieving important items from the enemy. Weapon plans, intel, artifacts, and anything you can think of even memories are not safe from Scyllis’ grasp.
Abilities:
- Immortality
- cannot feel pain (can only feel pain while using water link)
- water link (links herself with a person and shares her pain with the linked person)
- can steal the memories of the person she links with.
- water mimicry
- remembers all of the memories she has stolen
Thema’s thoughts on Scyllis: “My little sister is strange and gets exited easily, but she is my sister and I know she will always have my back and I will always have hers.”
Scyllis’ Quote: “there are two precious things in this world, Life and Memories… I love Stealing both.”
