SDS Thoughts | S1 E13 (Part 1)

I've got lots to talk about with this episode!

Enough to have to split this post into two parts.

Hehe... heh...

Can y'all tell the autism is winning?

Howzer

My boi is starting to have his 'Are we the baddies?' moment. HE'S SEEING THROUGH THE PROPOGANDA! He's starting to question the goodness of the Holy Knights and the villainy of the Sins... all because of Diane. Diane put herself at risk to help a civilian while the other Holy Knights were wreaking havoc. And when a Holy Knight attacks both Diane and the civilian, Howzer rightfully calls bullshit on that guy as Holy Knights are supposed to protect the citizens of Liones. And who did that instead? One of those 'horrid criminals', one of the Sins. And it was Diane specifically, whose sin is envy. And envy is a sin rooted in tearing down others, a very selfish sin.

It's here that we see a prominent theme in SDS: Things aren't always what they seem. We see it through Diane and Howzer, a Sin being selfless and a Holy Knight not snitching on her.

While I am more than willing to call Nakaba out on his more... questionable writing decisions, I will definitely give this man his dues when appropriate.

Diane

And speaking of Diane... Good fucking Lord this was definitely Diane's time to shine with Gideon. And King wasn't kidding with that lake analogy for Sins and their Sacred Treasures. While we've seen the power a Sin can wield with their Treasure through King, Chastiefol's strength is in its versatility. Gideon's strength is in its sheer destructive power, which really shows you how fucking terrifying the Sins are.

I fear the day someone lets Diane play Whack-A-Mole.

Helbram

So I recognized Helbram's English voice right off the bat as the same VA for JJBA PT3 Joseph, which is Richard Epcar. Well, the VA for Human!Helbram anyways.

Also, I don't remember much of Helbram's backstory, but I do know that he had a love for humans but that love was ultimately his downfall and his tipping point into hating humans. And Links Skill, his magic ability, works best when a lot of people are lending themselves to the user of their own free will. And magic is a reflection of the user, so maybe Helbram's magic reflects a desire for connection.

Elizabeth

Anyone who says Ellie is weak is full of shit. She doesn't need to be kicking ass to be strong. How is she strong then? Her conviction. Elizabeth Liones is many things, stubborn and determined are two of them.

Heck, even Griamore comments on how strong Elizabeth has become. Not physical strength but strength of character.

Ban and Spell Beads

I wrote down some notes about the spell beads which also happened to include notes about Ban. Now, do note that I'm watching SDS in the English dub, so I'm quoting from there.

My general observation regarding spell beads is that they seem to be used for more supportive things. Magic users specializing in healing and defense don't seem to be very common, the only ones we see with those specialties throughout the series being Griamore, Hendy, King, and Elizabeth. So, my little crack theory is that due to that lack of supply, spell beads fill in the demand. They're a lot easier to carry with you than a healer or defense person and much less on resources.

But where does Ban come into this? He fucking steals Jericho and Guila's spell beads. He comments "You have some fun little toys" in reference to the spell beads. Now, this could just be taken as him being an ass to Jericho and Guila - particularly Jericho - but there could be another way to take it. Ban's magic and immortality basically cover him in all the areas that spell beads cover, so to him, they are toys.

Now, as for the rest of the episode... Ban is losing his shit. It's enough for even Hawk to comment on how Ban has lost his usual cool. Why? Because Demon Meli, that's why. Up to this point, Ban is the only Sin we know to have interacted with a Demon. So while Meli is far above a Red Demon, Ban knows enough to grab Elizabeth and King and book it out of there like a bat out of Hell. It could also have to do with the fact that Ban's immortality was having a malfunction due to Jericho having Demon Blood in her and imbuing her weapon with Demon magic.

A lil' sidenote here: During Cursed By Light, we find out that the Sacred Fairy Tree is closest in elemental stuff to the Goddesses' magic. And it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to say that the Fountain of Youth is in the same ballpark. So it makes sense that Demon stuff wouldn't vibe with it and thus it fucked up Ban's healing factor.

The seven deadly sins headcanons of non-yandere King and his twin sister who was a fairy was different from each other..King's sister is laid back and easy-going, doesn't let things bother her so much but she was not the person you want to wake up on purpose or as a prank unless you want a funeral...(a certain tornado holy Knight learned that the hard way) when he woke her up and...erm..got beaten up quite badly using her powers of what King had and King's reaction to the scene of a holy Knight screaming like a little girl as he ran from the rain of daggers and swords..he deserved it and King wasn't helping him...(Hozaer didn't listen to King's warning about it)

A Cranky Sleeper - King x Little Sister!Reader Headcanons

🐻 You being the middle child out of the three fairies never really bothered to act like your older twin brother or younger sister, like royalty.

🐻 Instead you were laid back and easy-going, disinterested in the problems you and your siblings faced when being royalty. Because of that, you would often spend time with your subjects and Helbram. Acting like a regular fairy like the rest, just messing around, which would often lead to your subjects, especially the younger ones forgetting just how high your position actually was.

🐻 So when 700 years ago Harlequin left to look for Helbram and the others and hasn't returned since. You took up the role of The Fairy Queen, much to your dismay.

🐻 Even with your latest role, Elaine was the one that was acting more like a Queen than you. The blond would always deal with the things you were supposed to do, for you. The both of you knew you weren't fit for the role, but even with all of these difficulties your sister and subjects still loved you to bits.

🐻 To make it up to everyone for being a good-for-nothing Queen, you decided to instead chill right next to the borders of the Fairy King's Forest and become its protector.

🐻 Surprisingly you were immensely effective in your newfound role. Even if you were known for being the most easy-going and laid-back fairy around, everyone knew to never disturb you when you were sleeping. Slumbering is something you took exceedingly seriously for whatever reason. Everyone knew that you were a light sleeper, like, an extremely light sleeper. Waking you up from it would lead to huge consequences depending on who would be unlucky enough to disturb you from your snooze.

🐻 But this kind of information wasn't known to those living outside of the Fairy King's Forest. So whenever you felt bored just sitting on your pillow just watching your surroundings, you'd fall asleep. And unfortunately for those various armies and random people that showed up to steal a sip from the Fountain of Youth, they'd always wake you up. Each of their invasions would always lead to you becoming a demon straight out of hell chasing them away with your Chastiefol.

🐻 But even after all of that, you never actually hated humans like the rest of the fairies and your siblings. Since you and Helbram often hang out when he was still around, that lead to you interacting with humans as well. And your opinion of them is the same as with every other creature in Britannia: there are good ones and there are bad ones, that's it.

🐻 That's why Ban was probably the first human alive you didn't automatically blast away when you were woken up. Your angry mode would immediately change to the one of panic when you felt an unknown presence in the forest and the strong winds coming from the top of the Sacred Tree.

🐻 When you flew up there to aid your younger sister with your spear ready to launch, you didn't immediately attack. Stunned to see your sibling chatting with a human like it's a normal everyday thing. That's when Elaine introduced you to your soon-to-be brother-in-law and explained the situation to you.

🐻 And immediately after that, you and Ban became instant best friends. Ban made you remember just how fun being an active person was, the both of you could pull so many pranks in an hour it was concerning. Ban was the first person outside of your brother to share the love of sleeping with you, the two of you would often nap together after finishing pranking Elaine or your subjects. You two were just so much a-like it was impossible to separate the two of you. Ban was the first human you actually felt a connection with and would go as far as to call him your platonic soulmate.

🐻 But then the 7th day came. The day that almost killed you. The day that you failed to protect your family, your subjects, and your home. You promised Elaine right before she died that you'd look after Ban for her and find Harlequin and tell him everything personally. But even still, you couldn't leave the place you once called home. Telling Ban that he has to leave without you and that you will find him and join him on his journey once you were done rebuilding the Fairy King's Forest.

🐻 200 years later and you still weren't close to rebuilding your home. The only things that you managed to achieve during those years were finding fairies that managed to survive the catastrophe and planting a seed of what was left of the Fairy King's Forest. During that time you didn't change much as a person, the only thing different about you is that you took your role of Queen seriously this time. But once King came back, you placed Gerheade as a temporary replacement and joined your brother on his adventures with The Seven Deadly Sins.

🐻 You would've stayed if it weren't for the fact that Gerhaede basically forced you to go with him because she knew deep down you really wanted this. You told Harlequin everything that happened and he told you everything that happened to him. You never once hold a grudge, thinking something must have happened to him not to be there for you, Elaine, your subjects, and your home. And honestly, the experience only made you guys closer, something that was very much needed after so many decades apart.

🐻 You didn't become a sin, obviously, King would never allow it. Being the only family that survived, he became extremely protective of you. Even if your powers were equally matched, him being The Fairy King made him slightly stronger either way. But even still you being a sin didn't interest you at all, the only thing you contributed to the group was being occasional backup when needed or holding down the fort.

🐻 The Sins did consider you a close friend though. Merlin had a strong fondness for you because you basically let her run tests on you as much as she liked because you genially did not care. There's also the fact that you kind of reminded her of Meliodas and she could actually relax around you without feeling guilty about it. As for you, you really respected the mage for her knowledge and just found her fascinating to be around. Plus she's the calmest and the quietest out of the group, so you bet you'd be usually found sleeping inside her lab while she worked and not needing your assistance that day.

🐻 You loved spending time with Gowther because of how funny you found him being clueless about emotions, finding his lack of understanding adorable and interesting to watch unfold. Gowther had taken a strong liking to you because you didn't particularly mind his lack of knowledge and the things he said. He found it easier to understand some parts of emotion just because of how patient you were with him and easy to get along with. Gowther would also often practice with you talking like a "normal" person would, you were honestly a great partner to practice with because rarely take anything seriously, but during those exercises, you took them as seriously as he did because you knew how important this is for him.

🐻 Escanor appreciated you listening to his poetry, even though at first you made him insecure about it since you'd always fall asleep whenever he read it to you. You had to explain to him that his poetry was just so soothing to listen to, that you never had nightmares whenever he read on to you. And in a strange way, Escanor for the first time felt appreciated by someone when it comes to his poetry, so it became a mutual agreement between you two that he'd always read you some to help you fall asleep with a smile on your face because of how safe you felt in the moment.

🐻 You had a particular soft spot for Diane because she basically took care of and saved your brother's life. You appreciated how Diane would instantly talk quieter whenever she knew you were sleeping. She was also the only person that you did not mind doing any physical activities with, you'd show her and teach her various fairy dances just so she wouldn't feel bored whenever she couldn't enter the castle like the other sins. Diane instantly took a liking to you when you expressed that you could care less what size or race she was, she doesn't get that a lot so that was an instant win in her book. She also really appreciated your viewpoints were mostly the same as hers, it made her less insecure and actually more accepting of the life she choose for herself.

🐻 You and Meliodas were also basically platonic soulmates, not only were both of you laid-back and easy-going, but you understood each other on a deeper level. Both of you knew there was something much darker under the surface the two of you held, but neither of you ever wanted to talk about it. Instead, the two of you would show suitable gestures of support to the other person whenever you felt like the other needed it, and that was honestly enough for the both of you to consider each other close comrades. But when Elizabeth came into the picture? Oh boy did you become just as protective over her as Meliodas was. And the only reason was that she was basically the human version of Elaine in your eyes, so you definitely had a huge soft spot for her. And you being there for Elizabeth just as much Meliodas was made the guy love you even more, so much so that he often indulges himself in banters with King to let you become sin as well.

🐻 Which leads us all to now. After defeating Hendrickson, you and the sins basically had all the time in the world to chill for just a moment after everything that has happened.

🐻 After a notorious search for Hawk, everyone just kind of sulked around in the tavern after Meliodas announced he was the winner, much to everyone's dismay. You though were peacefully sleeping outside to the warm light that is called the sun. Unlike everyone else, you weren't partially bothered by the fact that you didn't win, only joining on their stupid quest because Elizabeth wanted to and you couldn't stand to watch her sad expression. That's why after everything was over you decided to take a nap to get some energy back into your system.

🐻 But during your little snooze a certain knight was watching you from the tavern right across from you. Howzer has such conflicting thoughts about you, it was annoying him to no end and frankly, he wanted to know more about you just so his mind would stop thinking about you whenever you were in his viewpoint. The two of you may have met each other in the battle of Vaizel, but you couldn't even call it an actual meeting. Let's just say he did acknowledge you from the stance in the crowd trying not to fall asleep, that definitely did not give him a good first impression, he was honestly insulted.

🐻 What changed his mind about you was seeing you fight in the fight of Liones. During your fight with Hendrickson, he definitely noticed a different side of you, an extremely dangerous and serious one. You looked like a completely different person to him, he was honestly intimidated and a little scared by how brutal and savage your attacks were, even if they didn't do much to Hendricksons demon Ash-Grey form. What mattered is that he saw this side of you that he thought someone like you definitely wouldn't have and he was instantly hooked on you, desperately wanting to get a better grasping of you.

🐻 He stared at you from his place against the door frame with an intense gaze, brows furred and with firm lips pressed in a thin line. Some would say he looked in deep thought, and others would say he was contemplating murdering you, and those were King's thoughts exactly once he noticed just who the knight was staring at this intensely.

🐻 "Just what do you think you're doing?"

🐻 Howzer snapped out of his gaze, startled by the fairy brunette suddenly appearing right in front of him laying on his pillow with an annoyed expression. Poor Howzer jumped back about to scream but the sound never came because the smaller male's hand slapped itself onto his mouth, immediately looking back with a terrified expression at the younger fairy behind him before sighing and looking back at the dark blond male with the same expression the appeared in front of him just seconds ago.

🐻 "What the hell man!? Why'd you cover my mouth like that!?"

🐻 It was then that King begin explaining his actions to a rather annoyed male. That reason was to obviously not wake you up, it was the last thing King wanted after such an exhausting day.

🐻 Howzer only giggled in response, surely such a lazy fairy like you would not react in such an immature way. He's seen you in battle before, yes. But he was dang sure that something like that wouldn't trigger a beast in you, after all, he did see your lazy side before and he assumed that it was going to be the same as last time, that is you not even acknowledging him in the slightest.

🐻 Ignoring King's desperate whispers, pleading him to turn right back around and maybe consider not committing suicide, Howzer marched right to the sleeping beauty that was still sleeping soundly asleep on her big floating pillow. He giggled under his breath when he was standing right next to your ear before standing on his tipping toes and yelling right in your ear.

🐻 Your eyes snapped right open, the startling feeling you felt as soon as you turned to the person that was now lying on the ground laughing his ass off, turned to immediate rage.

🐻 Howzer stopped laughing the second he felt a powerful aura that was coming from you. Looking up suddenly feeling scared for his life when he says your face a few inches away from his with the angriest expression he's ever seen. Glancing behind you only to see daggers and swords of various kinds and of course your Chastiefol pointing right at him. Howzer was frozen in place, too frightened to even move, too occupied with staring at the scariest expression he's ever seen.

🐻 "Run"

🐻 And that he did. Running and screaming like a little girl trying with all his might to avoid every attack to no avail, regretting not having his armor or any weapon with him to protect himself with. So the only other thing he thought of doing was screaming for help, peaking from the corner of his eye to see the sins, Elizabeth, Gilthunder, and Hawk just looking at him like he was the most fascinating thing in the world.

🐻 Diane and Ban, already drunk laughing their asses off to the point of crying. Gilthunder and Hawk were frozen in place in absolute fear by the sight alone. Meliodas was just sipping his booze with a deadpan expression, looking like it was an everyday thing for him, making no move to help in the slightest only letting out a chuckle when a weapon hit Howzer and made a funny noise because of it. Elizabeth on the other hand looked extremely concerned by the situation, trying her best to calm you down from her spot, yelling various things to make you stop. And then there was King, the smug bastard who was looking at the knight with the biggest shit-eating grin he's ever seen while giggling under his breath. Howzer's gaze was cut short though by you launching another dagger at him, screaming the highest note ever that could rival the opera.

🐻 After what felt like an attorney of endless torture, Howzer was currently sitting at one of the tables in the now-closed Boar Hat being healed by Elizabeth, looking at you from the other side of the room like you were some kind of ghost. It was at that moment Howzer made up his mind, he was definitely going to bug you again whether you wanted to or not, cause this man was now determined to have someone as powerful as you be his comrade! But next time he wasn't going to approach you while you were sleeping, not after what happened today, that's for sure!
