Working out with my limited edition Lululemon Seawheeze Pace Breakers
Dan and I ran 3.5ish miles this lovely evenin' in Potomac Yards. Love running with this dude. He kept pushing me out of my 11.30min mile comfort zones and I was hanging tight at 10.30 min miles for a bit. So all in all a good run. Tendinitis acted up a teeny bit but will ice and roll it again tomorrow before I hop on my plane to Vancouver and Sea Wheeze!!! Woo!
To say the past month's been a bit off would be putting it very nicely, and while I might not quite be fully on the wagon, I've grabbed on and I'm working hard to pull myself up!
First run back (one month to the day after my last run!) went pretty well!
Not my fastest ever, but by no means my slowest. I didn't make it the 40 minutes but only because I made a very poor wardrobe decision: shorts do not work in humid weather. Ow! Poor chafey legs.
My first mile was enough to remind me that I actually like this running thing.
And it was faster than my average. The second mile was not comfortable because of the whole shorts debacle, but I'm not that worried. Feeling a little less like I'm totally unprepared for the Half in August!
And now I'm enjoying a little bourbon and a little West Wing. Figured it was time for a series re-watch. it's always time for The West Wing...
Well, that was fun! AKA That time I tried to kill Michael & Graham
We started our "official" Tough Mudder training today. The plan is to workout together 2-3x a week, and then we can each work out alone as many more times as we want. I still run in an opposite direction of Michael & Graham - they run a sub 10' pace, and I'm still well well above and it makes me anxious to be slowing them down so we run around this park and wave at eachother as we pass. I think we'll probably follow my Sea Wheeze training schedule pretty closely.
After the 20 minute run we decided to do a deck of cards!
The leg lifts are an ab exercise - you lie on your back and lift your legs together up to perpendicular and then as low to the ground as possible. The jokers were 15 burpees each. And I modified from the boys in that I did knee push-ups instead of regular and tricep dips instead of pull-ups - by 3/4 of the way through the boys had joined me in those mods :) It was really fun! I think the plan is to do the deck of cards after a short run every Monday. This is what the two of them ended up looking like afterwards:
I promise I wasn't really trying to kill them! But it was HARD WORK.
Tomorrow is my first Foundations of Strength class at CrossFit. Woo!
I will be there, Sea Wheeze 2014!!!
I think I’ve decided that I’m not going to do the Sea Wheeze Half Marathon again this year. I want to but it’s already 80% full and since I’ve already spent $150 on my Tough Mudder entrance I’d rather spend the Sea Wheeze money on any number of other things and I want to concentrate more on CrossFit. Tough decision because I kind of wanted to do it every year since I took part in the first one ever. So for now I’m letting it go - if there’s still space later on I might change my mind.
Events I'm planning to take part in this year...so far...
Vancouver Sun Run 10K: April 21, 2013
Tough Mudder Whistler/Vancouver: June 22/23, 2013
Sea Wheeze Half Marathon: August 10, 2013
So what I'm saying is that more or less all my spending money this year goes to race entries...ha!
Oh..I forgot results...
So my official time for the SeaWheeze 2012 Half was 3:26:20.6. And I will, of course, go with that as my official time. My Nike+ GPS suggests I actually ran closer to 14 miles, and the time it gives me for finishing 13.11 is 3:17:03! So...in my heart I feel like that's pretty amazing.
ALSO (and more exciting for me), when I finished my run the Nike+ app surprised me with "Fastest 5k" and "Fastest 1 Mile" banners. AMAZING. I was pretty stoked for that.
