'Late Queer Identity Maze'
This is what it has felt like trying to figure myself out. Also, the way the steps turned out reminds me of that scene at the end of 'Labyrinth'. Love that movie!
With Gemma, I wanted to write about someone who is going through a new “coming-of-age” later in life and having to learn who she is and how to be part of a relationship. I think many queer people, myself included, are familiar with feeling like they’re stumbling through another adolescence after coming out or leaving home. Too often, starting a relationship is the end of a story, but so often, that’s just the beginning—Gemma may love Vauca, but at the start of SOTFS, she doesn’t know how to do the work of that.

Introducing myself . . .
Hello and welcome! On here I go by my masc nickname Toddy.
I'm autistic and didn't find out until my 40s because of being AFAB, and growing up in the 80s and 90s.
I'm bigender (woman & man) and gay in all directions! Although there were signs of this when I was younger, I wasn't able to figure it all out until I discovered that I'm autistic. When I started to unmask my autistic traits, which I'd been hiding all my life, other masks started to fall off as well, and I fell out of the closet! So, I'm having what I call a second neuroqueer adolescence.
'Neuroqueer' is a concept created by Nick Walker to explore the intersection between neurodivergence and queerness. 'Neuroqueering' is creativity that subverts neurotypical and cishet norms.
Here I post my 'neuroqueerings' - digital art, mainly collage, exploring queer and neurodivergent themes. And maybe some other stuff as well. I don't know yet.
Me: I'm feeling this way because of a temporary situation. I will not feel like this forever. Nothing about this is permanent.
Also me: Another tattoo would fix me, I think.
Just wanna reiterate the fact there’s nothing wrong with being an adult and revisiting things you loved from your childhood, or experiencing something of a second childhood. That goes double for anyone who grew up under circumstances where you were forced to adapt and grow up sooner than you should have.
Reblog those posts! Watch those episodes! Read those books! Buy those stickers! Draw that fanart! Write that fanfic! If you’d rather not draw or write but support the content creators in the fandom community who help you recapture that joy, then support them! You deserve to experience that sense of joy over the things that bring you happiness and light that spark in you!
I totally special ordered a 100% wool crocheted witch hat on Etsy because I'm turning into that person.
Thanks to Oscar Vinall for this lovely vector of the cover photo of Ben Gore’s Second Adolescence book.
