So, I’m reading Iron Flame & I kept waiting to see my baby Andarna… who we finally do see and get the “I’m just as broken as you are” quote that broke my heart & learn she can’t have a rider (though she already has a Violet & I’ve seen How To Train Your Dragon so I have good hopeful vibes still) but now I’m just wondering if Violet will get a second signet or what Andarna’s new power is since time is no longer… and a tiny part of my brain wonders if she can talk to the dead (though I know Liam is just a hallucination & the dreams aren’t even of a dead sage… I just want Liam back & since Jack Barlowe survived why not?) but I am genuinely excited to see how the plot develops with my sweet precious Andarna… and slightly worried about the sage dreams regardless
I feel like a fucking genius. I FUCKING CALLED IT! I GOT IT! ME! How did this even happen? I saw so many theories all over the everywhere and yet I saw none that got it. I figured I couldn’t possibly be the only one who clocked it so I must be wrong and I didn’t say anything but I WAS RIGHT! (I just realized I haven’t said the topic yet, but I figured out Violet’s second signet from the end of iron flame) AAAAAAA
If you choose to keep reading, you are at risk for major Fourth Wing Spoilers. You have been warned, but I beg of thee, do NOT ruin it for yourself. It is too good.
As we know, General Melgren's dragon, Codagh, marked all the rebellion kids (AKA, the marked ones). Now, there is another theory (not mine) that the marked ones have two signets. I have thoughts to add.
I believe that Codagh knows what is happening outside Navarre's boarder. Truthfully, I think all the dragons know, and that's part of why not as many are willing to bound. But that is a side note for another post.
As we have seen, the dragons names correlate with the signet their rider develops (thus fair, at least.)
General Melgren - Ability to see the end of the battle (Codagh means War)
Violet - Lightening (Tairneanach means Thunder)
Xaden- Shadow Wielder (Sgaeyl means Shadow)
Liam- Farsighted (and ice) (Deigh means Ice)
If Codagh knows what is going on outside the wards, outside Navarre, and disagrees... I think it is reasonable to assume that he intended, because their is no way a dragon this powerful would make such a critical mistake, for the marked ones to be able to draw power from their rebellion relic. Like, I don't know, a second signet, maybe? I also think that Codagh intended for this relics to interrupt General Melgren's ability to see the end of a battle if three or more are together because the rebellion isn't over.
The humans are the pets, the dragons are the leaders. The dragons are calling all the shots, the humans just think they get a say.
Let me what you think! I have plenty of other ideas/theories I am happy to share if you are interested.
holy shit i just came to a realization so compromisingly shocking that i hit my knee on the table and idk if this has been said before but what if violets second signet is seeing the manifestations of the spirits of the dead? you know how after liam dies, she sees him when shes really weakened/in need of motivation to survive? WHAT IF SHE WASNT HALLUCINATING BUT SHE WAS ACTUALLY SEEING HIM???
i just finished Iron Flame less than 10 minutes ago and while some of the theories for Violet’s second signet i’ve read through in that time (i’m trying to keep from sobbing okay?) are intriguing, i think people are missing the mark
RY has, very consistently i might add, given us info we’ll need to use later, ie: Jack pushing power into Violet, Andarna mentioning that she feels different, the book Violet’s dad gave her, etc.
why would she spend so much time on Violet’s nightmares to reveal that Xaden has the same one at the very end? like i said, literally JUST finished the book, so this isn’t a fully formed thought, but to me, RY is pointing us in the direction that Violet can either see dreams or read the future through dreams? i would bet money that Violet’s recurring nightmare was actually Xaden’s and that the reason she was crying when Xaden woke up is bc she was also dreaming his nightmare
This entire book I’ve been trying to figure out Violet’s second signet (I was leaning towards thinking it was fire; and the “first flame” Andarna had was actually connected to Violet’s powers; and stemmed from when she had none to protect her or Violet protect her with in threshing, and was the explanation of the spicy scene smoke (just mistaken for lightning) though it wouldn’t be a huge difference in the two… or some sort of intinnsic because we don’t fully get the Xaden & double-dragon bond) but the dreams and “dream-walkers” being a thing just totally blew my mind!!! So, I’m gonna go scream in dragon fangirl now… man these are gonna be fun to re-read!
