#seed trays

Done sowing this year's tomatoes. I wasn't sure I was going to do it as this is a very busy period for me, but I'm glad I took the time.

39 varieties, I probably won't have space for all of them, but that's a problem for future me to figure out.

Some varieties are new: Mar Azul, Chocolate Cherry, Citrina, Red Fig and Indigo Pear Drops. The first two are seeds I saved from tomatoes I bought from the supermarket a few months ago, I'm curious to see if they'll germinate.

There are also two rows of peppers, as I had some extra space. In the past pepper seeds didn't sprout very well in seed trays like these, I'd usually sow them in smaller containers I'd keep covered to maintain a high humidity, but we'll see how this goes.

Our local grocery store has heavy duty used seed trays for .99 cents! That means I’ll be growing more 🤣

Picked up today these “float trays” from someone who was getting rid of them. I’m not familiar with “tobacco floaters”, “float trays”, “hydroponic trays” etc... but there is always “let’s learn something new” 🤣 ... she started to burn them in order to get rid of them but she said she stopped because it created horrible black smoke around the neighborhood 👀😱😳 well I’ll be using them to start our flowers, I think that will be a better choice 🤪

Tomorrow is sowing seeds day, where we all sit to fill them trays !

Made some growing lights with plastic gutters I had laying around, hvac aluminum tape🤪...got a 8 pack of LED lights few months ago on Amazon ... few other things from around the house and let it be 💡 light!😆

Might use Mylar sheets to wrap around the grow light mini greenhouse

Our 2024 garden: seedling shuffle

Seed tray purchase is in!

Recently, I saw this video from Gardening in Canada. I liked what I saw with the seed starting kit, and her review of it. The main thing being, each tray has its own grow light, and we have lighting issues. We have tomatoes 🌱

Finally sowed my tomatoes yesterday. A couple of weeks later than usual, but I just couldn’t bring myself to sit down and do it. Was planning to sow less than last year and I chose 24 out of the 30 varieties I grew in 2020, but I also wanted more plants from a few varieties I really loved, so I actually ended up with more cups. There are no new varieties though. I have yet to order my brassicas and some other seeds I start indoors (hoping to do it by the end of this week) so if I see any more interesting varieties I might add one or two.
