Advice for Remy, Day 47. Have the perseverance to follow the things that you start through to the end. People give up very easily at times - they always have. I bet for every completed Roman Coliseum still standing today there were twenty more which never made it past the first row of decorative archways. I’m certainly no exception to this rule. Many is the project I’ve started with a zealous enthusiasm, determined to create something amazing, or overhaul something in need of change, or express myself in some incredible way. I go out all guns blazing, with armfuls of kit and oodles of determination and attack it head on. Unfortunately, many is also the project which fell by the wayside, looking forlorn on a shelf half completed, or in a dark corner of the garden awaiting a reignition of inspiration. I’d like to say it’s always a case of life getting in the way, but generally it’s more the case that something else came along, or the initial enthusiasm waned to the point that I couldn’t really be bothered any more. It’s not a nice trait, and it’s one I’m working hard on to make sure I don’t pass it on. Okay, so completing a jigsaw of the Titanic over the space of a few days is hardly on a par with a kitchen renovation, digging a pond or writing a novel, but it’s a start. And actually, bearing in mind a huge proportion of it was in black and white, it’s amazing we didn’t throw the bloody thing into the garden long before we finished. So I’m chalking this one up as a victory for perseverance, albeit it a rather small one. You’ve got to start somewhere, after all.
