🎥 Caught in the Rain: Another Night Without Shelter:

Today, Thursday, July 04th, 2024, the temperature has dropped to the mid-twenties with rain beginning at 17:00 and continuing at 20:00. With rain predicted for tomorrow, if it persists overnight, my absence of shelter becomes problematic. Currently, I seek temporary refuge under the building’s shield area, risking potential police involvement by receptionists forcing me back onto the damp pavement.

I was unable to stop crying while painting the image of three old year Syrian boy, Alan Kurdi who was found washed ashore, unresponsive. My heart still sinks in my chest when I see the image. How can life be so cruel, I wondered. He and his family were just trying to run away from harm, and maybe even death itself. Yet, Alan, his mother and brother meet it at Sea. What a courageous choice to have to make. That many others still face today, all over the world. Growing up in Miami, the melting pot of cultures, I have had the enlightening experience of hearing accounts from people having to leave or escape their “homeland.” I can’t deny that some of the means are illegal, dangerous or impede on more developed nations and maybe even unnecessary, but what are the alternatives or any thoughtful suggestion? Seeking Refuge Wins BAFTA

We are delighted to announce that Seeking Refuge won an award in the Primary Learning category at the BAFTA Children’s Awards 2012.

Mummu congratulates Andy Glynne and the whole team at Mosaic Films for producing the Seeking Refuge series, as well as our very own Karl Hammond who directed Juliane's story - also known as "Please Don't Let Me Go".

Using the testimonies of five children, Seeking Refuge was designed to offer a unique insight into the lives of young people who have sought refuge in the UK. Mosaic Films Director, Andy Glynne, approached Mummu to visually tell the story of 12 year old Juliane and her journey from Zimbabwe.

The series first broadcast on the Learning Zone on BBC2 in June 2012; the series was a key part of Refugee Week.

I rush so fast through the neon nights, no roses left nor their scent but concrete. My mind spins, ablur from the many nights before...ahead...my head. I don't know where I am sometimes, my head knows where it's at sometimes. I try to stop but my legs get tired, all the while the years sped past me. How many times am I? Where many how are this? My head, my head, my head. The moment I finally fall is the moment everything around me rejoices. Part to judge my exhaustion, part to recognize I finally have rest. Is he there to let my head rest? I use myself as a cushion because I know that's who will always catch me.
