Each year, I dread doing a post like this but it is here nonetheless. My most disappointed books of 2017. In this list I include the books I thought I would love but unfortunately I didn’t. Doesn’t mean they’re bad books - in fact, I’ve seen amazing reviews of all of them - but for whatever reasons they didn’t click with me. • - The Power. Nice premise. It had a lot of potential and I can see why it won the Baileys but I thought the execution of the story to be very poor. - The Clocks in this House All Tell Different Times. Whimsical, dark (maybe too much) and non-sensical. It ticked all the boxes for me but for whatever reason I didn’t enjoy the story as I was hoping I would. - Autumn. I felt this story was good but not as mind-blowing as everybody else was making it to be. It was easy to follow though and I will read Winter in the future. - My Absolute Darling. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable and I don’t think the narrative voice was the best choice for the story. A grown up man writing about a teenage girl who is abused by her father and doing it so from her perspective didn’t suit well with me. The ending was very underwhelming. It ended when I wished it could have started. - See What I Have Done. This sounded right up my alley but I guess I was expecting way too much. I wasn’t a fan of how the mystery was handled but I enjoyed reading about the messed up family dynamic. - The Butcher’s Hook. It makes me sad to include it here. I wanted to love it. I guess if the main character would’ve been introduced as the vicious, heartless bitch she was, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Ellis tried to make me empathize with her and that made me even more angry. The story is engaging and well-written though. - Mariana. A very, in my opinion, boring coming of age story about a very insufferable selfish young girl 🤷🏻♀️ • • • And that’s all! I did write a longer post on my blog {link on bio} if you’re interested. I’ll share my favourite reads before the year ends ☺️ • • • • #unitedbookstagram #stackofbooks #booksbooksandmorebooks #thepower #myabsolutedarling #thebutchershook #seewhatihavedone #coverlust
