The Selkie is a seal-like creature found living in the seas surrounding Scotland. The Selkie is a seal-woman who becomes a seal by putting on a sealskin and going into the sea and becomes a woman again by coming on land and taking it off. When the Selkie is in its human on land it leaves its sealskin out in the open by the rocks however their human form is so beautiful that men want them for their wives. In order for one to make a Selkie their wife they would have to steal her sealskin so she could not become a seal again and then hide it very, very well then she will have no choice but to do what the person wants in hopes she can find her sealskin again but she will always have a longing to return to the sea again. If she finds her sealskin she will put it on immediately and go back into the sea never to return back her family again. The Selkie get its name from the Scottish word “selc” which means gray seal.
