Tinkers and the Seanchan
We see in the last three books that the Tinkers have basically settled down outside of Ebou Dar. Mat even thinks about how it looks like a Tinker city. That means the Tuon as the Empress allowed that, since it is a settlement right there, which even though they’re pacifists from a military standpoint it’s a fucking terrible idea. Also, they’d have to basically trample through them if the city got attacked.
We know the Tinkers went to Altara and Seanchan controlled lands since they were told laws were equal to everyone, and that they could find safety there.
And that’s exactly what happened. They’re safe, they’re considered full citizens of the Empire (rather than outsiders who don’t belong anywhere), and they are given a duty that doesn’t infringe on their desire
All of that was may have been helped further along by Tuon having actually met Tinkers, which also allowed her to make a judgement call based on the ones she spoke with/was told about from a more positive light (Mat is immediately respectful to them which let’s be real isn’t common for him). Her first interaction with them involves them willing to put themselves in the way to distract Mat if he was a threat to Tuon and Selecia. So she gives them their duty, and respects their pacifism with the duty she gives them.
Huh. Random bonus thought; since Tuon is aware of the Tinkers being true pacifists, would she allow Tinker damane (if there become any) to not be used as weapons because of that? Or the same for possible Tinker sul’damane?
