Holy Week Processions in Quetzaltenango.
The five most important ceremonial and amazing processions in the city of Quetzaltenango took place on Friday (viernes santo). These processions, named “Buried Lord and Virgin of Sorrows”, begin at the cathedral and from the churches San Nicolás, San Bartolomé, la Transfiguración and la Merced. They travel the main streets and avenues of the city including the central park. Thousands of people from all over Guatemala and other parts of the world visit the city to watch these beautiful religious ceremonies.
