#sequel speculation

So I’ve mostly been lurking in the rwrb fandom but I’ve seen some discussions about what the sequel could look like so I thought I’d throw in my two cents:

Cold open with the proposal.  Dealer’s choice who, how and where (Paris seems an obvious choice, but also, well, rather obvious, dare I say a bit on the nose). Bonus points if Nora, Pez and/or Bea are somehow involved.

General background for the film would be Alex and Henry’s big fat royal wedding (I know in the book Henry left the royal family but from a narrative pov that would be wasting so much material). The wrinkled white racists at Buckingham Palace obviously come up with the most absurd obstacles and demands giving the boys plenty of opportunities to be adorably mutually supportive and cute. Or bang out their frustration.

One plot line could involve Alex getting princess diaried and finally being forced into those desperately needed etiquette lessons.  I imagine Shaan is heavily,  long-sufferingly involved (Zarah sends some very creative threats should Alex damage her boyfriend). Alex, of course, fights tooth and nail against any bit of royal protocol the point of which cannot be explained to him by anything other that ' that’s how we do it‘. Because is not a good enough reason for him to do stupid stuff. As a fellow English lit major I have a strong need for Henry to remind his grandfather that 'great customs curtesy to great kings' and maybe the royal protocols need some updates (they really, really do) and if the king can’t change then then who can?

Another plot line could centre around Philipp noticing that Henry is feeling some kind of way about certain people on the guest list. The 'I had my first time with one of my big brother’s friends when I was 17‘ bit wasn’t in the movie, but given we’ve only heard a fraction of those 72 emails it wouldn’t be a stretch to say it was in there. Pip could regain some of Alex's and Bea's trust as they work together to find out who took advantage of Henry (they eventually realise the person to ask is obviously Pez, but getting him to spil takes some convincing).  Philipp concludes his redemption arc in the grand finale of the film by punching the guy at the reception, causing a major scandal at his brother’s wedding thus making them even. Alex and Pez shameless cheer, Henry is surprised but very touched.

And then they lived happily ever after (until part 3)

Okay, so a sequel to One Tree Hill that stars Hailie Burton and Sophia Bush but none of the rest of the original cast, yeah I’m thinking it’s no for me. I used to be a fan of the OG show, despite it being pretty ridiculous and very much a product of it’s time, but revisiting the show while leaving out other leads is not something I’m interested in. It ruins the send -offs and ending we were given.

The show started as the story of the Scott brothers, Lucas and Nathan. The OG already let showcasing the brother relationship fall to the wayside too much when the OG main cast was all still on the show. So no, we already know CCM won’t be back. My guess is that they kill Lucas off with a heart attack due to his HCM. Hilarie and Sophia are like two mean girl besties who used to talk over Joy on their Drama Queens podcast when they hosted it together, and there is speculation that Hilarie and Joy are on the outs in particular. So, say goodbye to Hailey. With no a Hailey, say goodbye to Nathan (and Jamie). Aaannd new i have lost my reason to give a crap a boy this potential show. If the characters I cared most about aren’t on it, I’m not interested.

But, we might get Danneel back playing Rachel! Yay! By all means, let’s bring back, and probably redeem, one of the meanest, most stereotypical, shallow and shitty recurring characters (who literally married a murderer who happened to be one of the abusive parents on the show for money) instead of the OG mains. Rachell was, quite literally, the worst, but with Chaos Machine producing, I think it’s clear her character will show up.

Still, if there is one thing all of these actresses love to do, it’s to attribute the worst motivations to all of the male characters in the show, while excusing and justifying all of their own characters' bad behavior or wrongdoing. If the attitudes they show towards characters on the podcast Drama Quedns is any indication, I’m going to dislike anything they have a hand in creating on this new show.

My prediction: is Brook and Peyton will fall in love … because just as opposite-sex characters could not just be friends in media around 15 years ago, now it’s same-sex ones that can’t just be supportive friends. I’m not against representation or LGBTQ+ characters in shows at all. What does bug me is contrived rewriting of characters to earn points. They are going to kill off Luke, break-up Brooke and Julian, they won't include or mention Hailey and Nathan, despite them being Peyton's in-laws and Brooke's friends. They will find supporting characters from the OG show, that we were already sick of during its runtime, to make appearances even though it often won't make sense because they were closer to other main characters that are not on the sequel. Worse than all that though, is the Pollyanna effect I can already see happening with Peyton and Brooke's characters.

Maybe I’m wrong and it does justice to all of the characters who were on the original. Maybe the story is compelling and not stereotypical. Maybe, but I doubt it

So now that I’ve finally seen The Batman I kinda want to brainstorm what a sequel might look like if it included a Robin and how that story might very depending on who that Robin is (because I don’t think the movies be beholden to going in the same order as the comics).

Duke Thomas - Duke comes to mind first because the immediate aftermath of the film (the entirety of Gotham is flooded because Riddler blew up the seawall) almost sounds like a variant of Zero Year (Riddler takes Gotham hostage by gaining control of the power grid, (pretty sure there’s flooding involved in there somewhere but I haven’t actually read it)). The plot of this one would be something along the lines of Bruce somehow getting custody of Duke while Batman helps him search for his missing parents. I can’t really think of a specific villain for this, but it could be a good way for Bruce to learn to be more than vengeance as he gets introduced to systemic issues in addition to Gotham’s corruption (ex: Duke getting razzed  by cops because of his race.)

Dick Grayson - Robert Pattinson has mentioned he would be interested covering The Court of Owls in a sequel. So the Grayson murders happen but instead of focusing on Dick wanting revenge against Tony Zucco (because we sorta already got that plot from Selina/Falcone) We focus instead on William Cobb attempting to abduct young Dick for the court and Bruce learning how deep Gotham’s Corruption is.

Stephanie Brown -  Would feature Arthur Brown as a Riddler follower who escaped at the end of the first film and decided to carry on Riddler’s legacy by becoming Cluemaster (no, I have no idea if these two actually even like each other in the comics) and Stephanie attempting to spoiler his clues.

Jason Todd - IDK, I’m having troubles coming up with something I like for Jason, which Is weird cause he’s my favorite. Maybe Riddler’s question of “Do you know what an orphan is?” bugs Bruce and he goes looking into Gotham orphanages and discovers the child soldier training camp that is Ma Gunn’s School for Wayward Boys?

Barbara Gordon - Not a Robin, but Jim Gordon is very clearly pro vigilante in this movie. So his daughter taking that as implicit permission to become Batgirl isn’t outlandish. Could be interesting to see the potential strain that puts on Jim’s relationship with Batman.

That’s all I got. There might be something you can do with Harper Cullen, but I don’t know enough about her to craft that story myself. I think Damian and Cassandra’s stories’ are both to reliant on people from outside Gotham to make work, and Battinson is on an arc for more internal Gotham stories. Tim I don’t think works without a sidekick preceding him. Carrie Kelly is about reigniting hope in a grizzled cynical Batman which Battinson isn’t at yet.

My guess is WB will eventually do a sequel/limited series starring Dean Winchester II.

My dream fanfiction spinoff is Dean II is not a hunter but some of his children will be.   Whenever Dean II needs to recounts useful information or lessons or inspirations, Jared appears at Sam in flashbacks passing on the lessons to young Dean II, like Psych flashback scenes of young Shawn and his father that starts each episode.  And there can be flashback within flashback using scenes from the original show while Sam imparts the lessons to Dean II.

Dean II could re-open the bunker once he realizes some of his children are going to be hunters. They are joined by Garth and his children, Sam and Cas, who are avenging the death of their mother.

Then for three episodes the adult hunter grandchildren time travels back to 2020 to search for a valuable artifact, only to meet Sam and Dean after the event of 15x19 and one month before 15x20.  The grandchildren of course cannot tell Sam and Dean who they really are while the brothers help them find the artifact.  As the grandchildren spend more time with Sam and Dean, they come to really like Dean and want to warn him of his impending death.  But then they realized that if Dean lives, Sam won’t leave hunting, won’t meet their grandmother, and they will cease to exist.

I have a rough idea of a hypothetical "Apollo Justice 2: Truth and Consequences" - That takes place one year after Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

There are five cases in total, with one flashback case about Apollo's past and how he met Kristoph Gavin - a "where I started, and here I am now" tutorial case.

Along with solving cases with Trucy (and a few of the witnesses returning, like Wocky Kitaki and Vera Misham) - We have Klavier Gavin serve as Apollo's opposing counsel, in every case except the finale.

In the background we have...

The fallout of Kristoph's first arrest in Turnabout Trump, as well as his indictment in Turnabout Succession, and what that means for Klavier sharing the same last name

Phoenix Wright studying to become a lawyer again, so he's more out of focus but gives Apollo advice every once in a while

Another case involving Lamirior, and the possibility of her telling Trucy and Apollo the most important secret of all

And Apollo just gaining more life and professional experience his second year as a lawyer

It all comes together in the finale case, Turnabout Farewells, where Klavier is framed for murder and Apollo must defend him in court. He faces off against Erik van Zieks, The Crusading Prosecutor (descendant of Barok van Zieks, Reaper of the Bailey) - who's earned a reputation in Europe and then Japanifornia for aggressively going after those involved in the law who are accused of breaking it.

The stakes are higher than ever, because if Apollo loses, Klavier will be deported and face another trial in Germany, where Apollo has no chance of helping him.

It's a hard fought battle, but Apollo finally wins. Klavier is in tears from gratitude and hugs both Trucy and Apollo, Erik takes the loss gracefully and calls Apollo a worthy opponent, while Ema and Phoenix give their congratulations.

The ending is on a positive note, with Apollo being more confident than before and Klavier releasing a new single inspired by his time in the defendant's chair, titled "One Phone Call" (referring to the call he made to Apollo the night before he even agreed to defend him.)

Does Vector know Kaos was Den?

The subject of Den and the Barjack would have to come up eventually and Vector can tell if someone is lying. Kaos would have to do some expert level coverup to keep all suspicions off himself while not making any false statements. Would Kaos even actively try to hide the truth from Vector? The most we get is this single interaction.

My mind is a very strange place sometimes...

I keep seeing speculation about a possible Pacific Rim sequel (more mecha vs kaiju madness, what's not to love?). But I keep thinking about the Rift opening under Hudson Bay or somewhere in the north Atlantic, and a) the hockey playing nations that were spared the first time around develop hockey-inspired Jaegers and b) the Kaiju doing Eddie Izzard's 'invading Russia' bit. "We've got a new plan! Oh, it's a bit cold... It's the same plan!" Because I have a strange brain and am sleep deprived.
