so i just want to spread an amazing podcast i just found, it only has 36 ratings on itunes and that's a god damn crime. It's 5 people playing the sailor moon pen and paper RPG game (think D&D but all about RP). The amount of love put into this is amazing and If you have any interest in the sailor moon setting you'll love this. Sequinox: Winter

Yuki was tired, so, so tired. Her magic was low, to the point where she was scraping the bottom of the barrel just to continue, but she wasn't going to let that stop her. She would finish this spell, take a break to regain her strength, and start back again.  

Whispering under her breath, Yuki placed her cold engulfed hand to the ground, and watched with a satisfied smile as the floor became ice, racing towards the spot where she had placed a dummy earlier. First, it froze the feet to the ground. If it were real, it would be stuck to that spot. More and more layers trapped the dummy to the spot. And just as it seemed like that would be it...

The lightning blade pierced Summer's side, and while she didn't make much of a sound when it happened, as soon as she could get away, Winter could see the pain on her face as the blood puddled around her.

Spikes, three feet thick and six feet tall sprang from the ground, stabbing through the dummy to rip it to shreds. As well as freezing it in solid ice, like a fossil.

Breathing heavy, Yuki let her head hang as her arms shakily held her up. That had taken more out of her than she thought it would. But she couldn't stop. Just a moments rest and she could go again.

"Whoa, Yuki, are you okay?"

As much as Yuki loved Chell, this was a really bad time for her to stumble into their practice area. However, that didn't stop her from letting her best friend help her off the floor to stand. Huh, standing had been harder than she thought it would be. Chell made sure to keep her upright until the strength in her legs returned, and Yuki could feel her worried glance burning into her skin.

"What on earth are you doin'? Have you been in here since we all left?"

"Not the whole time," Yuki lied, "I just knew I needed to train more."

Chell looked over at the spiked death trap her friend had made, as well as the other fading ice spells, and debated on whether she wanted to call her bluff. Seeing this, Yuki pulled away and brushed off some invisible dust from her shirt. She hated lying, especially to her.

"I'm fine Chell. I'm just trying to get better. I know we have a lot of other fights ahead of us, we can't afford to get comfortable now."

"I mean, yeah, that's true, but Yuki," Chell walked over to pick up her phone, which she had forgotten here earlier, and showed her the dangling charm, "You're never gonna be alone. We're Sequinox, we kinda come as a team. We've got each other's backs."

Even though she had taken a beating, when Winter rushed over to Summer's side, she was giving her the biggest shit eating grin Winter had ever seen.

"Did you see that? Holy smokes, we kicked ass."

Smiling, Yuki nodded her head. "I know that. But that doesn't mean we don't have to do our hero homework."

"I hate when you call it that," Chell whined, making her way towards the exit, "It makes my skin crawl. School and magical powers should not mix!"

Laughing at her friend, Yuki walked her to the door, ignoring how she continued to complain about a paper they had due that the girl still hadn't done. As Chell went to walk through the door, she turned serious again, and looked her friend in the eyes.

"You won't be here too much longer, will you?"

"No, I'll be wrapping up soon. Promise."

With a sigh, she nodded her head, gave Yuki a hug, and walked out the door. Yuki stood still for a long while, making sure that Chell had really left. Then she uncrossed her fingers from behind her back, and walked towards the center of the practice ring.

Winter was used to the cold, since her powers derived from the coldest frost, but this? This was something far beyond her. The hand, the color of the purest snow, caressed her face, the long nails brushing gently against Yuki's skin. The woman in front of her, the Celestial being she had seen in her nightmares on multiple occasions, smiled down at her. The stars in her eyes twinkled, and it would have been breath taking if Yuki didn't notice that the constellations were brighter than they should be.

"We're coming," she whispered into Winter’s ear, freezing her in place.

Taking in a deep breath, Yuki stood tall, and conjured her magic to her hand again.

She would be stronger this time. Stronger to protect them all.

They’re from Sequinox, an actual play campaign run by Shannon, using the best scraps from the official Sailor Moon RPG. (I love Sequinox so much and I will never stop hyping it up ❄️🌷🏖️🪦🌞). So I figured I’d give them a day off getting boba! And don’t worry about their mentor-ish in the backseat. It’s fine.
