Can we see some holiday fluff with Sergeant Furrybottom and Private Whiskers?! Are they on the nice or naughty list with their mum and dad? :D
I should be working on my secret Santa gift but lord, I need a break, so here we go!
Also, I meant to try and get this done yesterday but I ended up spending a lot of time running last minute errands with my family so…. happy Life Day!
Life Day, every year, is a… spectacle, to put it nicely, whenever Jace Malcom is involved. Before he so unceremoniously, as he was wont to do, re-established himself in her life, Satele often spent it as any other day, though with some leeway for the other Jedi, especially the younger ones.
Of course, someone as exuberant as Jace Malcom would never allow that to stand.
It should therefore not have come as a surprise for her morning meditation to be interrupted by a hiss, followed by a blur of black as one, apparently incensed, Private Whiskers tore into the room, his fur making him look practically twice his usual size.
It should not have, but it still does.
Almost before she has time to open her eyes, let alone unfold herself from her seated position, he comes to a stop before her and, surprisingly gently, curls himself onto her lap, as if hoping her presence will serve to protect him. From what is revealed only a second later, when Jace bounds into the room and skids to a stop.
An eyebrow raises as if of its own accord.
“Jace, just what exactly are you holding?”
Unsurprisingly, his face lights up as he holds out the miniature headband that she suspects was made for children more than animals. Small fake antlers rise from the simple plastic band, complete with tiny tinkling bells adorning the tips. In her lap, Private Whiskers hisses again, pressing tighter against her, which Jace seems to completely ignore. “Costumes! It’s Life Day, so I thought we could all dress up.”
She blinks. “And just what exactly made you think that this would be a good idea?”
Almost as if on cue, Sergeant Furrybottom pads into the room and her other eyebrow joins the first, though whether from incredulity or begrudging admiration, she can’t be sure. Their mop of a pup has been stuffed into a red suit and fitted with an equally bright hat, though judging from his wagging tail and happily lolling tongue, he seemed to find less concern with his outfit than his brother. Then again, if she is to be perfectly honest, she can’t help but be a little impressed; his shaggy white fur makes a perfect beard for his costume, though it does nothing to dispel her utter perplexity at the situation.
“I… When…?”
Jace fairly beams at her speechlessness, a state that only he seems to be able to put her in. “I found them when I was looking about last night, and thought it would be a fun idea. Sergeant Furrybottom seems to enjoy it. Don’t you, boy?”
Underneath his simple joy, there’s mischief to his grin, and she narrows her eyes. “And…? What else do you have planned, Jace Malcom.”
“Ouch. The full name. Your suspicion hurts, Satele.”
When she doesn’t deign to even respond to that, he sighs, looking thoroughly put out. “Fine, fine. There may or may not be matching elf costumes waiting for you in the bedroom. I thought I could surprise you with these two first, but somebody decided he didn’t want to participate.”
“I don’t blame him,” she returns drily.
“B-but but but it’s Life Day!”
She barely resists the urge to roll her eyes at his theatrics. “I have no intentions of stopping you from doing whatever you wish to celebrate. But limit it to those who wish to participate.”
When his only reaction is to pout, lower lip sticking out with all of the maturity of the youngest of her initiates, she sighs. Loudly.
“Only for a little while, if I must, but leave the cat out of this. I have no desire to be scratched on Life Day.” She does not need to look at him to see the smug look on his face as he moves to pull her to her feet and lead her back to change.
After all, it is Life Day.
