This is probably just arospec cope but I sincerely believe that that last scene would have been just as effective without Helly, if not even more so (if just in a different way).

Like yeah, Gemma seeing Mark suddenly abandon here for some woman she’s never seen before is high melodrama and all, but consider: Gemma looks back, disoriented and confused about why he’s still on the other side of the door, and he looks at her blankly for a few moments, considering, before simply walking/running back into the darkness from whence he came. End scene.

I’m not even posing this as an alternative to canon Markhelly, not at all. He’d still be considering her, it just wouldn’t be spelled out to the audience so incredibly obviously. Plus this way they don’t have to explain why she’s suddenly all the way over at the stairwell for no apparent reason. Also it serves to emphasize how wanting to be with Helly isn’t the only reason he’s not going with Gemma, he’s doing it for himself too, not to mention the other innies. I also just think it’d be really atmospheric and I love that shit.

Moment of appreciation for the elevator ride down to testing. Innie Mark wisely holding Drummond hostage only for the switch to his outie making him tense up and fire. Outie Mark coming to in an elevator with a man he just accidentally shot in the throat bleeding out all over him with zero context for who he is or why he's there with him. That scene was horrific as it was hilarious well done 200/10

It is such an interesting choice that when innie and outie Mark are talking to each other, innie Mark has the red lighting through the fireplace, which is associated with outside and outie Mark has the blue lighting, associated with Lumon and inside

⚠️SEVERANCE S2 FINALE SPOILERS⚠️

i don’t think it’s helena. yes, helly was never cruel, but i really don’t think it’s her being cruel. i was a bit surprised she didn’t say anything or stop mark from coming up to her but i think she’s a woman in love at the end of the day and she just wants to be with the man she loves. same as imark, she doesn’t *really* know gemma/ms casey, and even if she wants to help her, this is potentially her last chance to be alive and be with mark. of course she’s gonna take it!!

imark is also totally justified, as both marks in their beginning argument had perfectly valid points. omark was invalidating imark, even if he didn’t mean to. he considers imark and helly’s relationship to be not nearly comparable to his and gemma’s, which, though they weren’t married and together for four years, relative to imark’s lifespan of two years, they’ve known each other a very decent amount of time.

like the writers said, if s1 was about childhood, this season is about adolescence. at the end of adolescence you start to become your own person and make choices for yourself. that is what imark and helly did. they chose themselves after a literal lifetime of serving their outies.

obviously it’s still devastating and i wish mark and gemma had been able to finally be together but it makes perfect sense why imark did what he did.
