Jaskier would stand himself up all the while, going around to look for a suitable bottle of wine for the pair of them. He wasn’t in a particularly somber mood himself, but he could probably be urged into one if  appropriately prodded about inappropriate topics and sufficiently  intoxicated. Uncorking a nice bottle of Fiorano, the bard would then find themselves a pair of matching goblets to sip from. 

Bringing them over, he’d set Yennefer’s down first and then his own. Just the same, he’d pour her glass before his own, then set the bottle down. With that settled, he would sit back down in his seat just  opposite of her, picking up his own goblet to down back a good sip.

“Now, is there anything prompting this? Anything you’d like to get off your chest for such a “depressing” chat?”

“I’ll always worry about you, Yen.” It’s a gentle admission but one that he truly means. How can he not worry about her when he loves her so? There will always be a piece of him that worries about her, wonders what she is doing during the time they are seperated, wonder how she’s doing. What chaos and mischief she’ll get up too. She’s capable of taking care of herself but that doesn’t stop Geralt from worrying. “Can’t help it.”

“Is that worry I hear in your voice?”  Witchers often go at it alone. As much as he appreciates the offer for help, is it really something that they need to do together? Contracts like this - sure, they’re difficult but it’s not like he can’t handle it on his own. Still, it’s been a long time since he’s worked alongside Eskel. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say this is just you trying to spend time with me.”

“You must admit, I’d be an extremely fierce babe. No one within a meter of me would leave without an exceptionally unattractive bruise. Perhaps a goose egg if I got a particularly good hit in,” 

It was true, though. Jaskier really wasn’t much for sword fighting. No, his specialty was more... oh, y’know. Stupid, drunken barfights where he nearly got himself stabbed over the petty squabbles of men. It  wasn’t like he was usually the one doing the fighting, anywhere. That was far more Geralt’s mark than his own.

Hell, even despite his own occasional protests, Jaskier was often  delegated to stay at their camp or inn room if he was off fulfilling the contract. The only times he had joined along were usually purely incidental, or times where he was getting pretty damn sick of the witcher skimping on the details. How was a bard meant to write under such conditions?!
