(Takes place in the Let There Be Light AU)
When Remus knocked on the door, Alphard answered it wearing an apron with a crown and the word “Queen” emblazoned on it. To his credit, Remus didn’t react in the least and Sirius was grateful. Joining the family for shabbat dinner was a rite of passage for new partners as Alphard reminded him. Sirius was just hoping Remus would still be his partner after the dinner.
But beyond a kiss on the cheek and accepting the bottle of wine Remus brought, Alphard and his husband, Levi, were gracious toward Remus as they lit the candles and sat down to dinner. Sirius noted that Alphard didn’t even check to see if the wine was kosher.
They sat on opposite sides of the table and Sirius wished they were closer so he could hold Remus’s hand but he had to settle for nudging him with his foot. “We’ve certainly heard a lot about you, Remus…” Alphard said with a smile.
“Positive things, I hope,” Remus said, raising an eyebrow at Sirius.
“Always positive,” Alphard said, with a smile. “What are you studying?”
“Will you let the boy eat?” Levi asked, his eyes twinkling. “He doesn’t need the third degree.”
“I am hardly grilling him, mein bashert. I just want to get to know him,” Alphard said, filing the wine glasses.
“Living up to that apron, are we?” Levi snorted. Sirius looked at Remus to see if he was put off by their volley, but Remus was smiling.
“I am a kind and benevolent ruler,” Alphard responded with a suggestive smile.
When dinner was over, Sirius walked Remus to the door. “So…was it bad?” he asked, searching Remus’s eyes.
“They’re wonderful,” Remus said, kissing him.
Sirius let his breath out. “Ok, good. I was nervous.”
“I know. And you’re adorable,” Remus said. “Goodnight.”
