I'm one of the rare few that care about the plot behind the Guilty Gear games (something that is told between multiple games, books, guides, and a LITERAL PACHINKO MACHINE) and I swear Super Natural makes even less sense! Things are clearly made up on the spot It's not even for Rule of Cool, its just thrown in last minute for fuck knows why. How is Super Natural so successful?

Because of the time it came out and the fact that it’s one of the pieces of media that has become synonymous with Kansas’s “Carry on My Wayward Son”.

Because we all know that if things like Supernatural, 9th Doctor and 10th Doctor Doctor Who, and BBC Sherlock came out today, they would have NEVER gotten the followings that they did; especially with people online sticking their noses up at any media that doesn’t center around LGBTA or POC characters.

SN also had the benefit (similar to those other pillars of the SuperWhoLock phenomena) of having a heyday in the same vein as Tumblr becoming more well-known as a fandom-haven. In those days, anything and everything went with fandom. If you think about how, whenever someone makes a joke about the Omegaverse trope, they typically mention a ship from Supernatural in the same breath, that’s the reason. Hell, remember when Misha Collins (the actor who plays Castiel) DARED to say ‘oh, this is horrible; I wouldn’t wish this on anyone’ when Trump caught COVID and so many people lashed out at him with jokes in the vein of ‘the only thing you’ll be remembered for is leaking out of your ass in wal-marts’?

And with the second thing I mentioned... I mentioned it as a joke, but there is some backing behind it. As far as I remember, every season finale of SN was prefaced with a clipshow of key story-elements set to “Carry on My Wayward Son”. Then people online would make constant references to it and the whole thing got to the following point:

Person 1: *looking at YouTube or some music-streaming site* Why are so many people talking about/playing “Carry on My Wayward Son”?

Person 2: *looks over* Oh... Supernatural is probably having another season finale...

Person 1: The fuck is Supernatural?

And then that person would look it up, fall in love with the show for either a while or for the long while and, eventually, the cycle would repeat.

Since we're talking about Yu-Gi-Oh! You know that one scene from the anime that gets clipped all the time. You know the "Draw! Monster Cardo!" The card that let him do that was Berserker Soul. It lets you sacrifice your hand to keep attacking as long as you keep drawing monster cards. Here's the important part: Berserker Soul also exist IRL.
