Alright, we are through 5.4 and 5.5! Felt like it went way faster.
Unlike my last post I actually really loved these two dungeons. I thought the music was fun for Matoya’s Relict, and then Paglth’an idk I found myself having a good time with the mechanics which I haven’t in a couple (last one I really found myself enjoying was the Rubrick’s cube mechanic for Vauthry). I love when you reach such a flow that it starts feeling like a dance, which I felt with all the bosses for Pag.
Also, you all have betrayed me for not providing me warning that a certain character is for sure going to die after I predicted it post Stormblood. I’m so sad 😭
I don’t like Limsa so the untempering questline I wasn’t super interested but then we immediately went back to the greatest city in Eorzea, Ul’dah so win! MSQ really has absolutely nothing for you if your fav city is Gridania.
Also I’m going to be so for real I do not recall why they are using a familiar at all. I vaguely remember Beqq Lugg explaining it in Ahm Areng but I have absolutely no recollection of the details.
Race to the finish! Finally put together this very long day of gameplay. Warning for a VERY long post, but as always this is more for me than y'all haha. Heavy spoilers and anything in quotation is from Nadya's perspective
Duties Completed
Malikah's Well, Dungeon
Mt. Gulg, Dungeon
The Crown of the Immaculate, Trial
Amaurot, Dungeon
I know this maybe mean of me but I love WoL whump haha. So cool to see her genuinely struggling with this. Loved this plot the same way I really enjoyed the post-Stormblood pain spikes.
"How embarrassing to be struck down like this in front of you"
"...hey Exarch? People don't normally visit me so this is a surprise."
I knew about this line because of this video, but I was still super excited to finally see it! Also this was embarrassingly the first time I started to get the rejoined thing and why our WoL in particular is so OP.
"Me and my three wards."
"We're the saviors of the world"
"Don't die on me, we have a tomorrow to look forward to my friend, and I'll be dragging you with me."
I really enjoyed this dungeon! Took me a second to understand the rubiks cube mechanic but as soon as I got it I was having a blast.
Love WoL being framed by the Halo, I'd be curious if that camera perspective is adjusted for other races to work the same way.
Fully did not understand the reasoning behind the Exarch trying to be evil. Is the implication that WoL can't hear the Scions having a whole discussion about him being FoS on the sideline? Even so, why would it be necessary for him to have an ulterior motive, to make WoL not feel bad when he dies?
"After all this time, I am going to die to the light. What an irony."
Loved all the first person perspective stuff, at least for me it is easy to forget WoL has a similar sight to Y'shtola, Krile, and Ryne.
"Maybe we will be stuck together when I'm gone."
Great moment!!! Funny coincidence that Nadya happens to look similar to Ardbert, I think it would be interesting to maybe retcon her pre-ARR appearance to look even more similar to him.
I really thought they were going to let WoL go solo to The Tempest. Another great moment.
This moment was freaking bananas! Totally blew my mind.
Hythlodaeus was very cool, I know we meet them again so I'm really excited for it. Again I am dumb and this was the moment it FULLY clicked for me what all the "Rejoined" comments meant. I thought "Oh, we are similar because we are each the primary chosen of Hydaelyn in our worlds" not "Oh we are literally a split of the same person from the original source."
Beautiful moment. I really did think WoL was going to die, at least temporarily. Maybe turn into a lightwarden and do a perspective switch to the scions fighting and saving them.
I kind of wish we got more of a goodbye with Ardbert honestly, his second death or really sacrifice, did not hit as hard as it could have for me. BUT, I did love that the 7 other warriors were our reflections. Very cool.
Again, I freaking love this expansion. I have another post coming with the final wrap up!
To most of the world, she was Azem, but to Hades, she was Persephone.
Seph was joy, and light, and boundless energy. She brought laughter and hope wherever she went, because she knew that’s what people needed most.
So of course, when the world burned, she couldn’t stand by and do nothing. She couldn’t abide by sacrificing some to save others. She wanted to save everyone. It broke his heart, but it was just like her.
She insisted he go, take whoever was left. He asked her to come with them. She said she couldn’t leave, because she could do more good here. She didn’t explain, but she promised they would see each other again. And then, just like that, she was gone.
It could have been minutes or millennia, it didn’t matter. Every moment she was gone leeched the life from him.
He would burn the world down to have her back. Even if she would hate him for it.
When I was playing through the MSQs I started having theories that the WoL was one of the three people who survived the sundering, only to remember Elidibus and Lahabrea were the other two… Anyway, AU where WoL is a reincarnation of Emet-Selch’s lover who died in Amaurot during Zodiark’s summoning, who only remembers who she was after she kills him.
“We won’t [do the the thing] any faster not drinking”
“This is all too much thinking, not enough drinking.“
“Oh, I know what you're thinking...“That Giott, always downing one ale or another,” you think to yourself, “And so good at it, too! I'm uncontrollably jealous! I just can't take any more!” And you quietly weep, on the inside.”
