faith feels like drowning before it feels like floating. | For Shadowheart
she can still feel the weight of shar' spear in her hand; the chilling cold sinking into her skin, her hold on the weapon so strong her fingertips had turned white. everything had felt cold, that eternal night. even now, days after the fact, no longer lost to the shadowlands, she isn't sure she has actually left lady shar's domain; the cold is still there, under flesh, waiting to sink its teeth deeper in... oh so desperate to reach bone. cold, no matter how warm the fire. no matter the gentle accolades, and the supportive looks of her companions.
vax's addition to the mix isn't exactly welcome, but it could be that shadowheart stole his spot... after all, isn't that what birds like? somewhere tall where standing still feels like flying. not that she's in the mood to joke about his own black-feathered burden.
baldur's gate sprawls over the horizon, but it won't matter for yet a few more hours. as for vax's words… "is that what you truly believe, or is it the only answer you can stomach?", her voice doesn't waver. it is a steady thing, as sharp and biting as it has always been, even though the white strands of her hair soften her face in a way she doesn't recognize yet. "i thought the same, you know. i truly believed the dark waters wouldn't take me." she shrugs, bitter, "look where it got me."
