CLAVE SYNOPSIS :
Stephen has always felt like his brother’s personal stepping stone. He accomplishes something, and Dune runs past it like its the starting point in a race and goes above and beyond. Since when did the older sibling struggle to prove themselves?
A relationship between two brothers always has some strain. One brother is always living up to the expectations set by the other previously, one of them is always referred to as the other’s “not-as-hot sibling”, or having to prove the other’s fatal flaw isn’t exactly their own. For Dune and Stephen, the case is similar, except its always been Stephen’s reputation receiving one blow after another because of his little brother. Dune has always been the typical little brother, sticking his nose in his brother’s affairs and following Stephen around everywhere in order to learn from his brother. Stephen never had a problem with this, until Dune ended up leaving him in the dust by doing better than him at everything. If being one of the youngest shadowhunters to kill a demon before his own rune wasn’t enough, Dune’s even a year ahead of him and every trainer seems to forget they’re even related.
Dune is tired of being the protector and living in his brother’s shadow. Being a Herondale puts a heavy weight on his shoulders and he’s tired of carrying most of that weight for his little brother. This year at graduation, Stephen is determined to win back his title as the eldest Herondale child and more importantly, prove he’s the best one, even if he has to kick his brother down.
Significant Relationships:
Jace & Athena Herondale: Stephen knows his family has a reputation of being one of the best, especially since the Dark War. He trains hard to make his father and mother proud and eventhough they are, he just can’t help but feel they think he could do better.
Dune Herondale: Stephen’s little brother is a year ahead of him and tends to be the better shadowhunter between them physically. He lives in his brother’s shadow, but at graduation this year, he intends to cast his shadow on Dune.
Camellia Lovelace: Stephen has always managed to find similar interests with Camellia as they both identify with living in the shadows. Camellia is the only one that seems to understand, even if she is the youngest in her family. What Stephen doesn’t know is that a nod doesn’t actually mean she’s always listening, but focused on the little crinkle in his eyes and the shape of his mouth.
