Dennis Edwards, one of the Temptations’ greatest voices, dead at 74.
Good morning world, let’s do this…
Genesis' Calling All Stations represented the pitfalls many musicians with lengthy careers faced in the 90's. True, something similar also happened to a multitude of tunesmiths in the 80's, yet the 90's posed their own set of challenges. The 80's had the sound, whereas the 90's consisted of a variety of them. One can say they anticipated the modern fragmented world, but that is a story for another post, since we are discussing how some coped with that period. Elton John, for instance, achieved some of his greatest successes then, even though their connection with the larger cultural contexts made that happen, because his solo records at that time were hit-and-miss. Duets could be considered to be a good case for that. Moreover, it showed the typical way of trying to maintain relevancy, i.e. Mr. John was one of the many who released albums of duos during the 90's. Listening to them one wonders – what did they intend to accomplish?
