I was re-watching BSG for the first time since it finished, and I'm shaken the first time I hear Athena's leitmotif play for Boomer.

But that's right! It was Boomer's theme first!

It's amazing. Athena really does steal every single thing in Boomer's life from her. Her name, her job, her co-pilot, her other co-pilot, all of her human friends, her only Cylon friend, and even her theme song.

She even takes Boomer's story arc from her, if you think about it. The tragedy of Boomer's life is that, undeniably, had Cally not shot her, everything would have worked itself out in the long run. Eventually--whether you think she's an innocent victim, or a spy that believed her own cover--Adama and the crew of the Galactica would have accepted her back (they do, after all, do exactly that with the other her). Instead she ends up cursed to live out this horror story in the background for three seasons.

one of my favourite weirdly specific character quirks that Adama has is that whenever he's having a crisis his immediate solution is to summon a 20-something subordinate for a weird, emotionally loaded hangout because if anyone is going to know how to deal with this moral conundrum it will of course be his communications officer/cylon prisoner
