What should Kali’s fate have been?
Leaving Hawkins to travel the world with El
Being taken in by the Hopper-Byers family

had to be annoying just one more time today.
i thought Kali's character was degraded during season five, but i liked her in season two.
an independent girl who was still abel to go out on her own and make friends? the girl who helped learn more about herself? who gave el experiences girlhood outside of all the men in her life?
but so many people didn't like her. "she was just in one episode" and "she was useless".
no, you didn't like her because she was indian. who cares that she helped make el feel more like a person? who cares if she's a badass that didn't let her abuse define her and tried to make a life for herself?
who cares. she doesn't look like "us".
if Kali was white and her name was Jessica, she wouldn't get nearly as much hate. if Kali had paler skin and a less cultural name, then she wouldn't be hated as much.
don't fucking lie to yourself, Jared. you don't like Kali? are you sure it's her character, or the fact that she's indian? are you sure it's her character, or the fact that her name isn't from the Bible?
this isn't me saying all people were like this. this is me saying enough people are like this.
Guys wtf is up with all that kali hate are people aware that theyre supposed to have this little sm called empathy?? Like she was abused in a lab, escaped found freedom, found family, and had to watch it die right before her eyes. They shaved her hair off, the symbol that she was away that they couldnt get to her anyomore. She was tortured and drained for her blood to start the program that ruined her life. And now ppl are massively thinking shell be vecnas spy bc shes suicidal?? Are we fucking real right now??
One of the best FOF scenes tbh could've been funnier tho

Stranger Things season 5 thoughts (so far)
Spoilers, obviously. I know we're not done yet, but I have some things to say about the season so far. There's a lot to cover, so let's get into it.
Here are my issues:
The Coming Out of Will Byers (because what the fuck was that?)
Hopper got shot (no more stakes).
Kali
Uhhh . . . (a brief rant)
Other Crazy Shit/Miscellaneous
(Some) Props
I will make a separate post about shipping stuff because I have a lot to say about that too, but for now, let's just talk about the other aspects of the show.
The Coming Out of Will Byers
Here's the thing: Is it nice that Will knows his friends and family will be there for him after Vecna threatened him with visions of being ostracized? Sure. I guess. But we don't get to see these visions. And, sure, it probably would've sucked to see Will being ostracized after coming out in a vision, but don't force him to come out because something we didn't even get to see that obviously wouldn't've happened. Plus, it's definitely not cool to force Will to come out to everyone like that. He shouldn't feel like he needs to come out while having to face the potential of losing his relationships with his friends and family, as threatened by an interdimensional sorcerer who's about to collide worlds.
Also, why was everyone there (except Hopper)? Like, Kali and Murray did not need to hear all that.
2. Hopper got shot.
Oh, yeah, do y'all remember that? During the crawl at the very beginning of the season, Hopper got shot when the Demogorgon attacked the soldiers. He then got away, ran around through the Upside Down with El, had multiple fights, got strangled by Dr. Kay's tentacle monster, nearly got sucked into the vacuum between dimensions (and also nearly killed himself for some reason) before getting back to Hawkins.
This is a symptom of a bigger problem the show has: our heroes have now developed so many layers of plot armor that there are no stakes. Of course, given all the foreshadowing, someone's gonna die come the finale. But until then, people are getting shot at, attacked, and pursued by monsters and soldiers, and most of the time, they can walk it off or easily escape.
3. Kali
So, Kali's back. Yep. Somehow, Kali returned.
Before I get into it, I think I might be one of the very few Kali fans out there, and I genuinely liked her in season 2. But it just feels like she's being used to create conflict for Eleven this season and isn't being much of a character outside of that.
I loved Kali so much in season 2 because of her potential. I thought the idea of there being more kids like El with new, different powers was super interesting. They didn't handle it perfectly in season 2, and they never expanded on it, but it still intrigued me. Then they shelved Kali for multiple seasons before bringing her back just so she could start shit and get on everyone's nerves.
Also, briefly, Linnea Berthelsen's performance as Kali isn't as strong as it could be (I feel that way about a lot of the actors this season), but I think it's partially a symptom of her character being insane and used for exposition and conflict (same with a lot of the other actors having their characters act strangely). I know she's getting a lot of hate, but this show has not done Kali's character and concept justice since she first appeared. Plus, she's clearly an antagonistic force now, on top of being underdeveloped and getting shoved back into the show as the only other living psychic kid. It was never going to work out.
4. Uhhh . . .
Speaking of the psychic kids . . .
WHAT THE FUCK DO THEY MEAN THAT HENRY'S BLOOD WAS INFUSED INTO PREGNANT WOMEN TO MAKE THE PSYCHIC CHILDREN??? Henry developed his powers on his own, and the show implies that Brenner kidnapped the kids and turned them psychic, not that the mothers were INFUSED WITH CHILD BLOOD at some point. Adding in this plot point now is crazy. It's to the point that I have half convinced myself that Kali's just lying about this. That or it's not going to end up mattering. But genuinely, what the hell kind of aside is that?? I feel like we've just entirely lost the fucking plot at this point. This point could also apply to all the other crazy revelations that have just been casually dropped, like the Upside Down just being a wormhole and the giant ball of exotic matter, but this in particular was just fucking insane.
5. Other Crazy Shit/Miscellaneous
Here's a list of other stuff I have issues with this season:
Hopper tried to kill himself and what he thought was Vecna by exploding the military's Upside Down lab with dynamite strapped to his chest. What the fuck.
We start the season off with 'Remember that huge world-ending rift in the town that we left off the last season on? Oh, yeah! We covered it up! Kids are sledding down it now. Isn't that a great way to kill that threat off-screen?'
Joyce has done nothing except make some crazy ass plans this season and hug people. I also see people complaining about how Eleven hasn't gotten to do too much and I couldn't agree more.
The gang drugged and kidnapped an entire family and literally destroyed their home, chainsawing a giant hole into their floor (which, like, what??), and committing other various acts of property damage.
Also, the gang easily breaks through the floor of a military base and they manage to nab a ton of children before anyone notices. They break into military facilities so easily and frequently that it feels almost comical.
Apparently, we're just telling our girlfriends and science teachers about the parallel hell dimension and the evil wizard controlling the monster hivemind now.
We've confirmed that the Upside Down is a wormhole to the Abyss dimension, which is just kind of a lot to do right here at the end. I know Henry got shot into another dimension by El and sort of discussed it in season 4, but still, it feels very last-minute.
Given that we saw multiple melted people, why were Nancy and Jonathan totally fine after shooting the exotic matter while the building made of metal and concrete was melting into goo around them?
The Upside Down doesn't feel dangerous at all anymore. (Aside from Vecna, neither does the Abyss.) People are just going in and out with no concern. This was a growing problem the show's had, but it's still worth pointing out here.
I don't think we're getting our traditional 'kill character' this season, as in, we aren't getting a Barb, Bob, Alexei, or Eddie. I think instead someone in the main cast is going down, probably El or Will. I'm thinking it might be Dustin or Steve (or both), given the whole 'I die, you die,' thing. But we have a problem: El can resurrect people. She resurrected Max. And Will sort of has psychic powers now, so he could potentially pull this move if El's the one to die. Again, no stakes. This can be bypassed by one or both of them losing their powers, which can happen, but it's something I've been thinking about.
6. (Some Props)
Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, and Jamie Campbell Bower are doing an amazing job acting this season.
We got another queer character confirmed and had him come out, and yeah, it sucked, but we have some more queer rep in this really big show, and that's good in some capacities.
Steve got a new sweater.
That's it.
Final Thoughts:
As always, these are just my thoughts and opinions. You don't have to agree with them. As such, it's my opinion that the finale is going to have to pull some god-tier level improvements to bring things back after all of this.
That said, I'm excited for the finale. It's long as hell, so I'm hoping they do manage to pull things off and at least make the plot satisfying to watch, even if there are a lot of issues with the characters and little issues with everything abound.
Only time will tell.
Also, stay tuned for the post about Byler because I got some fucking things to say about that, too.
