Trying to keep these kind of brief and not swamped with information. Blue and green are very attractive colors to them (associated with wealth), purple and pinks are the color of flesh and has the same dramatic connotations as red have for humans.
A majority of the Rainmaker story takes place on Zion, a planet in Alpha Centauri. Things go wrong and the human crew ends up separated from each other. Amongst them is Rick, who is severely injured and would die if he wasn’t found by the local population.
The day after writing this scene I dreamt that I was in it. I've tried to draw how it felt, capturing the pure animal fear of it.
Some literal worldbuilding – the three planets featured the most in Rainmaker. The atmospheres on each one are breathable for the life of each planet, give or take some minor toxic reactions.
Spinning orbs done in Blender with shocking success.
do the Shauians like to hug? They look very huggable!
So glad I've reached the point of finally getting fluffy questions for my species and OCs
Shauians, like most social animals, enjoy touching each other and being held. They aren't very well balanced when standing on four legs so when they hug using their forelimbs they balance on one another.
While on Zion, the crew of the Rainmaker end up separated into smaller groups. One of those groups encounter Ksan, an abandoned Shauian juvenile who is won over with the promise of food and water. She kind of imprints on them, especially on Angelica, and is young enough to sponge up English and become their main means of communication with other Shauians.
Two maps from the Rainmaker story of the homeplanets of the other alien species. One planet with a lot of land, and one with much less. Large image 1, large image 2. More info below cut
Zion was named so by humans seeing it through a telescope and by using spectroscopical analysis realizing it had an atmosphere identical to that of Earth. 'Zion' in this context means 'paradise.' The people of Zion, Coursers, call it Sha'u. Humans can visit and breathe there without issue, but longterm stay isn't recommended – cancer, lack of proper nutrition, isolation…
Ku does not feature in the story whatsoever, except in the backstory of the Rex characters and the dreams of those who have talked to them (Rex thoughts are prone to cross-contamination). Humans could be there with smaller issues but not for very long because of the gravity and the exotic atmosphere. But the vacation photos would be worth it.
