Warning: rant about autism online communities

Saw a mutual reblog some bullshit about "autism representation in media bad because it's not my autism!!11!!1!1"

If you genuinely believe that then I don't think I can be comfortable around you.

You think that showing more severe autism is "infantilization"

You think that showing more severe autism is "inaccurate"

You think that showing more severe autism is "stereotypes"

Well guess what. The show you're bashing, the movie you're trashing, the characters you call stereotypes and inaccurate and fake, those are the characters I relate to the most. Because I am not you.

There is more autism than level one autism you know. I hope you know that.

I hope you know that level 2 people are on the internet and can see the shit you say about us and how characters like us are "inaccurate to autism"

I hope you know that level 3 people and/or parents/caretakers of level 3 people are seeing you talk about them or their child as if they don't exist just because you don't like the severely autistic character in the hallmark movie you just watched.

In your journey to have more autism representation, you actually DECREASE autism representation because you're saying level 2 and 3 rep isn't allowed. Moderate and Severe autism rep isn't allowed. Only mild is allowed guys!!!!! Only Quinni is allowed guys!!!! We're not allowed to have other characters chat!!!! Chloe says that only Quinni is accurate so that means we're only allowed her guys!!!!!!!!!!

We're not allowed to have characters with severe meltdowns, speech differences, echolalia/scripting, constant stimming, "childish" special interests, live with parents, can't get jobs, nonverbal, eloping, AAC, or anything relates to level 2 or 3 guys! Remember! That's the rule!

Fuck you, I have plenty of OCs with moderate and severe autism. But I'm also nice and I DON'T FUCKING EXCLUDE PEOPLE so I also have some Level 1 OCs as well.

Maintagging some things because this message needs to get spread.

I've always felt weird about how the online autistic community criticizes The Good Doctor.

The criticism never seems to be, "hey, most media with autistic people also involves savant syndrome, I feel like people will conflate the two," or, "hey, autism doesn't make someone blatantly transphobic and unable to learn."

The criticism is always, "why does he speak like that? I don't speak like that." "Why does he move like that? It's super awkward." "They made everything about his autism and makes us seem stupid," "They only show stereotypical autism."

For one, it's clear nobody has actually watched the show, because the show delves into his past and he also literally has a wife and a kid; the show is meant to show people that some autistic people can do things like neurotypicals can. Literally the entire premise is about an autistic person being a doctor, it's meant to challenge stereotypes about autism (and no, House is not autism rep, one episode mentions he might have "Asperger's" and then Wilson says he doesn't and just calls him an asshole. House is never confirmed to be autistic).

Two, as someone with stereotypical autistic traits, it's always disheartening when I see autistic people online make fun of Shawn for...having autistic traits. They always bring up how he speaks or how he moves and act like no autistic person does that. I do that. I speak like that. I don't make eye contact and I don't have an expressive face, and I wring my hands a lot.

Literally every time someone says The Good Doctor is "bad rep," it is always, always, always about the traits he has, rather than any sort of message the show is sending. Do we just conviniently forget that "stereotypical" autistic people even exist anymore?

I struggle to even call it a stereotype because his symptoms are just general autism symptoms, there is literally nothing special about the way he presents other than having savant syndrome. Yet we never criticize show writers for giving literally every autistic person in media savant syndrome...

Also, they use Dr. House as "good" autism rep. House shows the same traits as Shawn, except House is conventionally attractive and stands out more as a character. I love House MD, but come on. House is very much a "stereotypical" presentation of autism as well. I am convinced people don't like The Good Doctor because they were told by people online that it was bad.

(Also, the "I AM A SURGEON" meme is pretty funny. This post isn't about that, it's about general criticisms people make about the show).

setting: forced to work together on a combined FBI–hospital–murder–medical mystery episode crossover extravaganza. tone: like locking three cats in a shoebox and shaking it.

house: “oh, fantastic. a forensic anthropologist with the bedside manner of an MRI machine.” brennan: “i don't understand why you're angry. i simply corrected your flawed diagnostic.” shawn: “i like bones. they're very organized.” house: “great. rain man with a scalpel.” shawn: “that’s not a kind thing to say.” brennan: “you’re both exhibiting emotional responses. it’s inefficient.” house: “i’m going to fake a seizure so i can go home.”

meanwhile, the patient’s spleen has exploded, a corpse is missing a femur, and cameron is crying in the hallway. none of them have noticed.

Grayman53 apparently got in contact with Shawn Murphy to share more D64 concept art.

This thread is about 6 or so artworks and this one about that female enemy.

2 seem seen before but one is the full version of the unused D64 box art.

Also, going back to the unused female demon.

In one of the DW threads linked above, she and the 2 headed dog apparently had names... maybe.

"I was able to get in contact with one of D64 level’s designers Randy Estrella, and he actually gave me the names for the demon dog and lady!"

"That’s right! Nobody could have guessed these! /s

I’m guessing these were names thought up on the spot until maybe someone could come up with something more creative. Unless I can get into contact with the former artist of D64 and they can tell me something different, Cerberus and Succubus are the names the team used for those cut demons."

Funny enough, with my "ultimate Doom game/meytr" project, i once thought of the female D64 demon (which i call Harvester in that project) being a potential Succubus as theorized by the UAC, in my version of Doom lore.
