actually best villain in all literature is Flare from Mato Sato's light novel series 'The Executioner and Her Way if Life' but nobody knows that because you have to get through 4.5 books for the series to get good. and the writing is still bad (might be a translation thing i have no way of checking)

#the executioner and her way of life#flare#she has everything#deep self hatred that she feels is necessery for the job#knowledge that this is all she can ever be yet want to be something more and better#really toxic relationship with her apprentice/main character#and the scene with cigarette in vol.5 ahhh#also just the concept itself?#i hate when books have famous assassins who are also very good at open battles#both of these are not helpful in assassinations#but making Flare a famous assassin that is famous for being the only person in the world who can successfully camouflage as other people#and change her appearance completely#genious no notes best of both worlds#she gets to be scary and famous and unrecognised by people she is trying to kill#actually the biggest issue with that series is that it has so many good ideas that are impossible to use in anything else#because how would i even explain all That
