Comic studies of Backdraft and her personality.
Scrounge
Autobot
Spy/Energy Scout/Heavy Trooper
A young Autobot from the same generation as Bumblebee and Eagle Eye. A chipper little guy with a can do attitude, he starts each day with a smile and a little gusto even if it’s raining heavy Decepticon fire. He prefers to look at the positives in life despite not having the best luck, and tries his best to roll with the punches. Physically weaker than even Bumblebee, Scrounge isn’t the best fighter despite his desire to prove himself on the battlefield. He’s much better suited to spy missions and scouting for fuel, a role he does excel in and treats seriously, but he longs for action. Scrounge was the first to sign up for Nucleon testing, because he wanted to become stronger, faster, and more alive… It didn’t go quite as smoothly as he expected. Like others in the test, he lost the ability to Transform into his Cybertronic Big Wheel car mode, which actually made him slower, and require him to bum rides. The only real mutation he experienced was stronger, Nucleon enhanced armor allowing him to take more punishment than he normally could, but that wasn’t enough for Wheeljack and Perceptor to allow Scrounge to undergo the Action Master upgrade. A determined Scrounge broke into the lab and Binary Bonded with an experimental Dinobot mechanimal called Gnash Wheeljack was developing for Grimlock. Gnash lacked confidence and the natural ferocity of the other Dinobots, and is more of a gentle goober, preferring to gnaw on Energon Rod Candy than rip out the processor of a dangerous Decepticon with his bare teeth. The two Autobots would quickly find they complete each other, granting what the other lacked in order to protect their friends. When the chips are down, the two can combine, Gnash becoming an Apex Armor grade Exo-Suit armed to the teeth with weaponry that can take down the hardiest Decepticon.
Scrounge’s main weakness is his overconfidence. He means well, but he tends to get in over his head, forcing Bumblebee and Gnash to rein him in a little. His over exuberance as an Action Master also has him runout of ammo frequently, often blowing his entire load on something that didn’t require it.
Shellrazor
Decepticon
Water Trooper/Aerial Recon and Rescue
A quiet and slightly meek female Decepticon that’s a bit of a doormat. Easily startled, she’ll Transform and tucks herself away in her turtle mode’s shell, which is then used as a discus by an outraged Galvatron, Cyclonus or Scourge in a vain attempt to get her to fight to her annoyance. Shellrazor much rather enjoys underwater missions, enjoying the calmness and flow of a planet’s oceans which allows her to sneak around and snipe Autobot ships and aquatic outposts from a distance, but because those missions are few far and between anymore, she’s usually stuck being a reluctant tank plodding along on land. She does have impressive firepower and her Beast Mode can withstand punishment, but she lacks confidence and gumption, and admires her best friend Iguanus’ natural charisma and self love in and out of his Pretender Shell.
Wanting Iguanus’ confidence, Shellrazor signed on for to be a Pretender more for the perceived confidence boost than the life support the Decepticons needed at that point. Not caring what Shell it was, Shellrazor took an alien fairy like Pretender Shell with natural flight (most non Micro Decepticons had to forgo their flight power in Robot Mode to conserve fuel) and minor hypnotic powers. This was the confidence boost Shellrazor needed, feeling pretty AND powerful, she developed a more straightforward, slightly catty and sassy personality and eagerness for battle. With the potential of her limited hypnotism abilities, Shatter and Cyclonus pivoted her function to a rescue role, bamboozling Autobots with her Shell, while her inner Robot helped evacuate damaged Decepticons in a loosing battle. On land and sea, Shellrazor’s Shell also offers needed aerial support while her true Turtle Mode attacks below.
Shellrazor’s main weakness is her insecurity, not really helped by the cold Cyclonus, hot headed Backdraft or bombastic Galvatron screaming in her face a lot of the time. Her Pretender Shell’s butterfly like wings are also very fragile, with a direct hit causing feedback that makes the Shell useless.
In the Heathers AU, Heather McNamara is often compared to Shellrazor. While Red and Green despise being compared to Backdraft and Starscream, Gold Heather seems to have a genuine interest and affinity with Shellrazor, fiddling with Dan’s Shellrazor when he had the toy out at lunch period in a role play game he was doing with Martha Dunnstock. Gold was particularly interested in the inner turtle until Red and Green dragged her away from the geek squad.
Hey, im now on bluesky!
