But would love see her reading Nick's notes to Tommy, before meeting Frannie of course.
Also, why banish her from the committee? An Afro American men, Native American woman and Deaf-mute Latin man, that's representation. Have 1/3 of women and 1/2 of people of color would be great.
At least she had excellent lines and moments in episodes 7 and 8.
I love Irene Bedard so much, just look at her smile.
And I know her famous character is fucking Pocahontas, but I really love her voicing Shelly Longshadow in Young Justice Invasion.
Gen, Shelly Longshadow and Bianca Reyes discussing their son's after the events publication
Shelly sighed. “For all the trouble Tye could get into, I never expected it to be anything like, well, this!”
Bianca nodded in agreement. “Parenthood is never without its challenges. You would not believe the number of discussions Alberto and I have had about everything since Jaime became a superhero.”
Shelly looked distressed, and sunk down in her chair. “How are you not sick with worry when he’s out there?”
Bianca leaned over and put a supportive hand on Shelly’s arm. “It can be distressing, especially when the fight is on TV. But I know that Jaime has friends who can help him out of a bind, and that he’s good at what he does.”
“Thank you, Bianca,” Shelly said, leaning towards Bianca. “I’m not sure I’d be able to handle it without you.”
Nodding, Bianca let Shelly vent. She couldn’t let the woman suffer any more than she already had.
Summary: Tye and Ed adjust to their new life as step brothers.
"Oh God they're at it again," Tye said, entering the now shared room. "I swear they can't go an hour without getting all giggly and gooey-eyed."
"So, any idea what time we're moving?" Ed asked, pencil in hand.
"Tomorrow at 8 AM. We need to have everything that can be in boxes in boxes by then. Which will be pretty easy for you and Asami, given all your stuff hasn't flown in yet and Asami wants nothing to do with her family back home," Tye said, sitting down on the bed that he had been sharing with Ed. Weeks on the road together had made this arrangement a lot more comfortable than it normally would be.
"Finally. No offense, but your house is a bit small for all of us," Ed said, staring at the stained ceiling.
"I got that when Asami had to sleep in a spare sleeping bag on the floor. Good news is that Jaime and Virgil will be helping us move, unless there's a crisis, and with our powers it should be relatively painless."
"Good, because with those two staring at each other I think I'll be sick to my stomach," Ed said.
"So it's finally happening," Tye said, looking out his window.
"Uh, yeah, you told me."
"No- I mean, in a week there's the wedding, and we'll officially be brothers."
Ed stood up and placed a hand on Tye's shoulder. "You know what 'hermano' means, right?"
"Yeah, Jaime told me- brother."
"So you know that you've been my brother for a while already, right?"
Tye smiled. "Yeah, I know. But this way it will be official. We'll be living in the same house. Asami will be with us too- although we both know I don't see her as a sister- and we're even going to a new house."
Ed leaned forward and had a lazy smile on his face. "Hey, we knew when running away that everything would be different. Just not how much. And the funny thing is we got everything we wanted by running away."
There was a knocking on the door. "Can we come in?" Shelly asked, and Tye and Ed shouted their assent.
Shelly, Dr. Dorado, and Asami entered. "Cake!" Asami said, holding out a decently-sized, round ice cream cake. "Before the move," Asami explained, smiling.
Asami placed it on Tye's desk, and Dr. Dorado took out a kitchen knife and carved it up. Shelly handed out paper plates. "We figured that since everyone has been worried about the move, we should get a treat before all the hard work tomorrow."
"Besides, ice cream cake happens to be one of Shelly's weaknesses," Dr. Dorado exclaimed, holding up a plastic fork.
"One of my weaknesses? I remember you insisting that it was ice cream cake instead of any other kind," Shelly retorted.
"Ah, but your weaknesses are my weaknesses," Dr. Dorado said, taking a chunk of cake on his fork and holding it out for Shelly to eat.
The teenagers just shook their heads at the gooeyness, and Tye whispered to Ed, "As my brother, you are allowed to tell me and Asami to get a room if we ever act like that."
"As your brother, I think I will require that you and Asami share a room," Ed whispered back.
They continued to eat the cake, having a nice family night before the move.
Whoa! Whoa! WHOA!
Wait just a cock-a-picking minute here!
Back up!
You mean she knew?
Shelly Longshadow freaking knew?!
I can’t believe this. You mean to tell me that all this time when I thought that this lady was oblivious to the fact that her son had been kidnapped and experimented on by alien conquerors from out of space...
When I thought that she probably spent the days since Tye’s sudden disappearance wallowing over the loss of her son, probably leading to some character development on her part when she realized the error of her ways...that maybe she was wrong for choosing Moreese (or however his name is spelt) over her child and allowing him to torment them for so long.
And when I thought that she spent most of her time praying to the almighty God that Tye would return safely to her one day so that she would get to the chance to actually tell him how much she was sorry for hurting him and disappointing him as a mother and promising him to try hard to repair the damage dealt to their relationship (probably through family counselling and what)...
That all this time...my assumptions were wrong and she knew everything?
You’re telling me that not only did Shelly knew of all of that but she also gave Star permission to have custody of him for a while. She knew about all of it and she bloody hell consented to it!
Damn son.
Now I understand why Tye was all “...Dude, I can’t believe you called your family. No way I’m going back to mine.” in episode 15. His own mother left him to be further experimented on by Star Labs. Yes I know it was for his own good and safety but...what if to Tye, this was yet another straw that broke the camel’s back moment that gave the impression that his mother didn’t want him anymore, at least from his perspective?
Which brings me to my question----if Shelly had insisted that Tye NOT do the testing, implying that he had already been through enough and deserved to be home where he was “safe”, would Star have just let him go?
Or was it a situation where when the League or Star contacted her, Shelly desired more than anything for Tye to come back home but when she suggested it, Tye downright refused to go back there, rebelling against the whole thing leaving her no choice but to just...leave him there along with the other Runaways?
That makes more sense, right?
And what else happened, I wonder?
Given that the parents gave consent, does that mean they were allowed to contact their children while they were there and vice versa? Y’know, each child was allowed one phone call a day to their respective parent or guardians (with the exception of Ed and Asami) to talk for at least 45 minutes or so, y’know like how they do it in prison (so to speak)?
Were the kids allowed to call their folks? I’d figure Virgil will probably try to talk to his folks every chance that he got, same for Neut in an attempt to reconcile things with his foster folks. Because my hunch is that Neut was most likely bounced around a lot in the foster care programme and that his current foster parents were probably the nicest he’s ever met in a long time but he was so worried that they would’ve turned out to be terrible like the others that he didn’t really give them a chance to treat him like an actual member of the family and mostly rebelled a lot when he didn’t need to or ran away before they got the opportunity to show that they’re actually good parents---or something like that. Or what if...things were going well with Neut and his new foster parents but just as he was about to settle down, something happened that made it appear as if Neut was being abused by his new foster folk. A mere misunderstanding that suddenly escalated and resulted in Neut suddenly packing up his things and running away out of fear that social services might take him back. He didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye to his foster mom and dad, something that he felt guilty for because they were good people that deserved better than that. That sounds plausible, right? Then again, like I said, it’s just a hunch).
But what about Tye?
What if...Shelly tried calling him every day in a persistent attempt to apologize for the whole Moreese fiasco or at least have a decent conversation with him to hear about how he was going at Star Labs but Tye...just wouldn’t let up. He doggedly refused every opportunity to talk to his mom time and time again. He was still too angry and just could not forgive her at that point.
And....I’m over-thinking this too much, am I?
And...Is it also wrong that I somewhat see Eduardo Dorado Sr. playing a part in this scenario as well---y’know like him trying countless times to convince Tye to talk to his mother (since he was probably the one responsible for handling the phone calls to and from the parents/guardians) because he was tired of having to mask the fact that that her own child just didn’t want to speak to her. This would then lead to Tye calling him out on his own tense relationship with Eduardo Jr. which would then led to...
...
Y’know what...I’ll just leave it at that. This is border lining fanfiction territory and I don’t know about you guys but I feel a story coming along.
Anyways, just wanted to share my thoughts on that response from Greg, sponsored by windona. Toddles!
Tye convincing his family to let Asami live with them?
“Tye, doesn’t Asami have her own family that she would like to go back to?” Shelly asked, as gentle as she could be.
Asami shook her head. “No. Japan bad for me.”
Tye looked at his mom. “Please, mom. Asami and I have been together for months, and we won’t do anything weird. But for once, please listen to me.”
Shelly looked at the earnestness in her son’s now blue eyes. She looked at the shy girl who was looking down in her lap, hoping that her boyfriend’s mother would accept her. Shelly thought back to the days when she and her husband looked at their then-baby son, hoping to one day have a daughter.
Shelly gave a watery smiled. “Alright, Tye. Asami can stay. But you do have to catch up on your school work. Both of you.”
Tye nodded, and grinned, hugging Asami. She let out a cry of joy, and Shelly knew she made the right choice.
