The major difference between a fire genasi and an infernal tiefling is how the flames they create happen.

Genasi contain the element inside of their mortal bodies, so the flame does not need to be ignited, it simply seeps out from their core. A genasi who's element is extinguished is a dead genasi. This is why you often see them with flames at the roots of their hair as well; it isnt on fire, it is fire.

Meanwhile, an infernal tiefling's blood ignites with spikes of adrenaline (such as with intense fear, pain, or anger) and then vents out of their body. The flame is unsustainable for long periods of time, more akin to an explosion than a campfire. Their fire will be mostly used defensively and often not because they commanded it to do so. They are not fire themselves, they just create it.
