🏜️ We Lie Here 🏜️ Pub Date: July 12, 2022 Thank you to @booksparks and @rhowzellhall for the opportunity to read this one! SYNOPSIS: A woman’s trip home reveals frightening truths in a twisty novel of murder and family secrets by the New York Times bestselling author of And Now She’s Gone and These Toxic Things. TV writer Yara Gibson’s hometown of Palmdale, California, isn’t her first choice for a vacation. But she’s back to host her parents’ twentieth-anniversary party and find the perfect family mementos for the celebration. Everything is going to plan until Yara receives a disturbing text: I have information that will change your life. The message is from Felicia Campbell, who claims to be a childhood friend of Yara’s mother. But they’ve been estranged for years—drama best ignored and forgotten. But Yara can’t forget Felicia, who keeps texting, insisting that Yara talk to her “before it’s too late.” But the next day is already too late for Felicia, whose body is found floating in Lake Palmdale. Before she died, Felicia left Yara a key to a remote lakeside cabin. In the basement are files related to a mysterious tragedy, unsolved since 1998. What secrets was Felicia hiding? How much of what Yara knows about her family has been true? The deeper Yara digs for answers, the more she fears that Felicia was right. Uncovering the truth about what happened at the cabin all those years ago will change Yara’s life—or end it. It couldn't have been easy sharing some of this stuff but I appreciate her honesty and it helped to understand her emotions at the time. I really enjoyed the letters she sent to friends and family members! It's a thoughtful book. It had me wondering how and if I would be able to do the same. It would be a nice book for a book club! The book touches on deep and heavy topics but I still walked away feeling inspired and hopefully! Happy Publication Day for What We Give, What We Take! This was a wonderful story about the relationship between a mother and son and how we love even the most dysfunctional family. This is a very emotional and heat wrenching story but a great read! No spoilers but there are some tough subjects covered. I have not read anything else by this author but I do plan on looking into the authors other works. Thank you to @booksparks @shewritespress and @randitriant for the advanced copy of this book. Recent Reads, Rapid Reviews: The Heirloom Garden, The Long Call, The Fourteenth of September
It’s time for some quick-fire reviews of books that I’ve pulled from my TBR list, some which were hits and others, well, not so much. The HEIRLOOM GARDEN by Viola Shipman For the PopSugar reading challenge I needed a book about a passion of mine. As you know, gardening is a huge passion for me, this year more so than in the past. When I saw the title of this book I thought it would be a perfect…

Thanks to @shewritespress and @tlcbooktours for the gifted copy. This was a very interesting read. I didn't know what to expect going in but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The author's writing really paints the scenes. The 80's history sprinkled into the story was one of my favorite aspects. The alternating timelines didn't get confusing. I loved that it had a strong, female lead who wasn't afraid to take a chance on her own happiness. This is book is for you if you're into: 🎸 second chance romances 🎸 long lost loves 🎸 60s era of sex, drugs and rock and roll 🎸 80s history 🎸 consequences of settling in relationships 🎸 strong female leads 🎸 stories about artsy people 🥁SYNOPSIS🥁 As her stultifying marriage is unravelling, and in the midst of mourning the loss of her creative self, Caro Tanner has a nightmare about Peter, an old love whom she hasn’t seen in twenty years. She takes this as a sign he still needs her. With her three children safely off to summer camp, Caro embarks on a pre-Facebook, pre–cell phone road trip to recapture who she once was and what she thinks she once had. Set in the sex, drugs, and rock ’n roll ’60s in Tucson, Arizona―when Caro and Peter were kooky, colorful, and inseparable drama students―and in the suburban ’80s, when Caro’s creative spark has been quenched to serve the needs of her husband and children, So Happy Together explores the conundrum of love and sexual attraction, creativity and family responsibilities, and what happens when they are out of sync. It is a story of missed opportunities, the tantalizing possibility of second chances, and what we leave behind, carry forward, and settle for when we choose. It sits in that raw, messy, confounding, beautiful place where love resides. #SoHappyTogether #TLCBookTour #DeborahKShepherd #rockandroll #SheWritesPress #BookReview #1980s #1960s #Bookdragon #BooksandMurals #BooksandArt #Bookstagram #BooksOutside #bibliophile #BookFeature #books #BookPhotos #Bookworm #reading #paperbacks #bookish #FemaleAuthor #FemaleLeads (at Bushwick) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPWcm2MrxBl/?utm_medium=tumblr
