MY 15 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 671:

1) She’s so cute; I loved Tamako immediately. Kinda wish she was Pachi-kun’s kid.

2) SHE IS SO FREAKING PRECIOUS I COULDN’T EVEN DEAL

3) Awww, poor pumpkin.

4) I was so happy to see them, even though Tama was still out of commission. But the fact that Kintoki was able to be revived gave me hope that one day Tama would be revived as well. I still hope her missing screw is Yamazaki. Hee hee

5) “Daddy-sama”. 

6) I appreciated that; gave me a good chuckle.

7) The virgin meter. Lols.

8) Poor Shinpachi, seriously can never catch break.

9) OMG. I FREAKED OUT. That was SUCH a cool entrance from Nobume!

10) DIRECTOR OF POLICE IMAI NOBUME. OMGGGGGG

11) THIS. THIS WAS SO CLOSE TO MY FERVENT WISH FOR SOYO TO RULE THE COUNTRY I FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT. I CAN’T STOP YELLING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I WAS THAT HAPPY. 

12) She is really so damn awesome. I love Nobume. And Soyo. Both. 

13) Total Boss. Isaburo would be so damn proud.

14) Ok like basically everything onward from here about the Shinsengumi I just assumed was utter bullshit and at the time I was totally sure Sorachi-sama was just trolling us. Or rather, I HAD to believe he was only trolling us because the alternative was simply too devastating. My heart wouldn’t have been able to handle if any of that was true, especially the whole thing about Sougo committing seppuku. 

15) I actually thought this was rather believable...except the part about what he did to the Shinsengumi, since the last time I checked, they were friends. And I absolutely believe Zura would be a better leader than the real Donald Zurump ever can be, so on behalf of Zura, I actually felt insulted by the comparison.

SHIPS TALLY: 

Shinpachi x Nobume: I just liked that moment so much I had to show it twice. I thought it was a pretty sexy reunion. 

Shinpachi x Soyo: I don’t think I ever considered this ship until a fellow Ginta-fan pointed it out and now I love it and totally support it...maybe even more than ShinNobu.

Kintoki x Tama: I think he genuinely cares about her; if I wasn’t so set on YamaTama, I could totally board this ship. Especially now that he’s a good guy.

Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just so freaking amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s generosity that I can enjoy Gintama on yet another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. Gintama anime ep 362/manga chaps 669, 670, and 671

Dear Gintama gods and Sorachi-sama,

Please allow me to humbly express to you what I am most thankful for in this episode:

- an unexpected outcome to a trip down memory lane,

- a precious pocket puppy,

- a Madao by any other name is still Madao,

- Tae-chan,

- a handsome stalker-turned-house-husband,

- this beautiful final fantasy,

- dear old ladies,

- a sweet virgin cherry boy,

- Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Gengai Cannon’s “Kin-Tama”,

- Tamako the adorable, precious little robotic wood sprite,

- Kintoki’s wise observation,

- heart-breaking partings,

- the lolicon meter, 

- a shippable moment,

- the most beautiful and awesome Commissioner General of the Police,

- the most beautiful and awesome Shogunness President Princess Leader,

- my favorite new ship,

- this BOSS AF lady,

- cruel lies,

- Prime Minister Zura-Zurump-Katsura,

- an approaching reunion,

and lastly, my favorite manga to anime moment:

For fellow Gintama fans who have not had the pleasure of reading the manga up to this point, I can only imagine how confused they must be feeling as we delve into this timeskip. I remember how confused I felt back when I first read those chapters, and I remained confused for quite some time as I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to take any of these developments seriously. I almost envy their ignorance; even though the uncertainty did cause me a good amount of stress, looking back now, there was also an exciting aspect to the mystery as I couldn’t wait to see what you would reveal to us each week. Watching this episode made me relive all the wonderful and distressing emotions I felt at the time, which provides a certain degree of enjoyment and entertainment in a different way. I’m doubly glad that BNP has finally decided to slow down a little and only  cover a few chapters of the manga this time instead of cramming a handful of them in one sitting. I hope they will continue to take this pace from now on since I really don’t want them to rush through anything or worse yet, omit any important moments from the manga as we head into what may be the last stretch of the anime ever, a thought that fills me with infinite sadness, and yet I understand it’s a reality I have to eventually get used to unless you bless us with some miracle. In the mean time, I am going to try to push those depressing thoughts aside for now so that I may properly enjoy the crazy, unpredictable treasure of this timeskip arc.

A Gintama chapter a day keeps the ending away...Lesson 604

MY 8 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 604:

1) All that’s missing from this complete Yorozuya portrait is Sadaharu. Seriously, I was mentally cheerleading for Nobume to join them permanently.

2) I loved this fight: not because I really gave two shits about Hitsugi...in fact, I cared so little about him that I just kept on referring to him as Crow-san cuz I didn’t even really bother to remember his name...but rather because Gintoki was so brutal right from the get go. 

3) Perfect example of Gintoki’s brutality: he stabbed his sword right into Crow-san’s mouth without any hesitation. 

4) I loved Gintoki’s words: “Master? Disciple? I don’t see any of those here. What I see in front of me is just a villain.” And he looked so beautiful.

5)  And here too: “And what’s in front of you is just a Yorozuya!!” Gin-chan is so awesome!!

6) I just enjoyed seeing the three of them fight together.

7) Just...I mean, look how damn cool Gintoki looks in his midair strike pose! How can I not love this??

8) Bless Nobume for totally sacrificing herself and shoving Gin-chan out of danger.

SHIPS TALLY:

Gintoki x Nobume: technically she was willing to die for him...made me actually wonder if I should be considering this ship more seriously.

Shinpachi x Nobume: this is totally my own headcanon, there is obviously much more evidence to support GinNobu than ShinNobu, but I still derived some pleasure from seeing Shinpachi and Nobume just standing side-by-side and fighting together.  Look, I just really want our Pachi-kun to be with someone awesome and more attainable than an idol or an edible insect. And I know he would worship Nobume and treat her right, so I think it’s a win-win for both of them.

A Gintama chapter a day keeps the ending away...Lesson 601

The title image alone was enough to make me all weepy.

MY 15 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 601:

The first half of this chapter totally wrecked me tonight because of all the memories it conjured up. Seriously what the living fuck am I going to do when Gintama is over? I will be truly despondent. I might need serious therapy to get over the loss. 

1) I think I got weepy when I saw the anime version of this scene, and tonight as I revisited it, I got weepy again.

2) Everything about this...it was what started everything...I just can’t even...TEARS.

3) Can’t stop crying.

4) Tama...I love her...she meant well but that definitely was not the best thing to say to those people.

5) THEY SETTLED IN MY HEART TOO!!!!

6) Kagura’s love for her Yorozuya fam just made my heart hurt in the best way possible.

7) Bless Tama...when she does say the right thing, it’s always so very right.

8) I was kinda relieved when we got to this part tonight because finally I can stop crying and actually laugh. But still, this was nostalgic in its own way: can you believe we’re on the second movie already?? I remember being doubtful about Oguri Shun too...and my misgivings about him weren’t exactly dismissed after watching the first movie once...it took a few rewatches and now of course I am totally into his Gin-chan.

9) I don’t say this hardly enough at all, but really, bless our dear translators for not only allowing Japanese-illiterate folks like me to be able to understand Gintama, but also for taking the time to explain things like the whole Granblu  in-joke.  

10) I remember being so tickled by the random titan cameos...I love fandom crossovers, especially since I love AOT....although seeing this now makes me feel a little guilty since I’ve fallen behind on both the manga and anime. Shameful. Can’t help it, free time is precious these days and I chose to devote what little I have to Gintama.

11) Can Kagura-chan be ANY more adorable??? But seriously, I remember being worried about Hashimoto Kanna too, especially since she looked older than I expected when I saw her in action for the first time in the trailers for the first movie. Much like Oguri Shun, she has totally grown on me now and now I love her as our live action Kagura. Happiness indeed. 

12) The joke was very cute, but I am still very glad we got the live action Sadaharu that we did instead of Wan Damme.

13) Nobume!! Seriously, every time she pops up I’m reminded of how beautiful she is. I want her to be with Shinpachi. I don’t care if it defies logic, I crackship the hell out of them.

14) She is so damn awesome too. She looks like a badass killing demonness there. I do wish they found a way to include Nobume in the next live action movie (I really hope we have a 3rd) but it would probably have to be something like the Baragaki Arc...which isn’t a bad thing but they would have to find a way to include Shinpachi and Kagura (and even Zura) since they were pretty much MIA in the arc.  

15) Total OH SHIT moment. Seriously, this guy is such a shitty party pooper.

SHIPS TALLY:

Gintoki x Shinpachi: they were my first ever Gintama ship so I was feeling decidedly nostalgic about them tonight. My shipping of them lasted as long as it took Hijikata to appear but I still have a soft spot in my heart for them since they were my first.

Shinpachi x Nobume: I don’t even have any evidence to support them in this chapter...I think Shinpachi was the one who called out her name...but I’m still going to include them cuz I just want to.

Gintama anime ep 318/manga chaps 555, 556, 557, & 558

Dear Gintama gods and Sorachi-sama,

To spare you the ordeal of reading even more lengthy letters from me when I had already written to you previously about each chapter, I will instead share with you what I am especially grateful for in each episode during this new season. I am as always thankful for your tolerance and most importantly for granting us the gift of Gintama. Please don’t let this be the last season of the show.

I am thankful for the following:

- Kagura, for always having her priorities straight. 

- A good cry…since that is what this scene granted me. I got weepy when I first saw it in the manga, got weepy all over again seeing it in the episode. Hurt my heart like crazy.

- the inclusion of Sadaharu’s leave letter. OMG, getting weepy again. I should be used to this by now but nope, this scene with the leave letters still kills me.

- a CLEAR view of Bansai without his sunglasses which was NOT a part of the original chapter. Very happy about that change. He actually reminds me of Hijikata. Too bad the glasses went back on almost immediately.

- our little girl all grown up and ready to protect her two families. SO. PROUD. OF. HER. [Hysterical Sobbing]

- Nobume. She’s just so sweet. I want her to officially be a permanent part of the Yorozuya family by marrying Shinpachi. I will ship ShinNobu until the end of time and I don’t give a damn if it’s a borderline crack pairing. Just hearing him call her name in that sympathetic tone of his made me so happy. 

- Takasugi’s carefree, smiling face. I still hope we will get to see that one day.

- these badass losers. Look at how awesome they are! So proud of them!

- NobuNobu’s very punchable face. At this point, the only remotely attractive quality about him.

And finally, my favorite manga to anime scene, and I promise I will really limit it to just ONE scene:

A Gintama chapter a day keeps the ending away...Lesson 557

MY 10 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 557:

1) Bansai basically fanboying over these three...I totally felt him.

2) This hurt my heart...

3)...she still misses Isaburo, naturally, but that smile somehow made her seem lonely too. I wanted Nobume to join up with the Yorozuya so much. I just didn’t want her to be alone anymore.

4) I loved the fact that these were the mugshots Utsuro was looking at on the big screen in his ship. Like, they couldn’t even manage to find normal pictures of Zura and Gintoki...not to mention that’s not even Gintoki but rather Zura pretending to be Gintoki.

5) I just loved seeing these three boys together, squabbling, being their old selves. 

6) Seriously, was Sakamoto that far out into space? How could he not have known WHY these two were angry at Takasugi?? Dude was practically the villain for the first half of the series! I just thought this was an odd statement from Sakamoto, but it was made funny by these two narcoleptic goofballs.

7) I did feel kind of sad that those No-Good Brat days were probably all over for Takasugi. Even though we will see him smile again, it will never be the same as this smile of his youth.

8) This reminded me I still hated NobuNobu at this point and I wanted him to either die or be beaten to a bloody pulp by the Joui boys. He was such a hideous villain back then. Yet, I just cried for him like a few days ago because of the anime! All these different timelines I’m following is really messing with my emotions. 

9) I thought it was a really cool maneuver.

10) I freaked out. The coolness was too much to handle.

SHIPS TALLY:

Gintoki x Nobume: I know she saw a similarity in him to Isaburo so one can argue she only thought of him as a father figure, but I can see it go a different way. I don’t really ship them, but I can see why people would.  

Shinpachi x Nobume: this could probably be considered as a crack headcanon of mine, but I really want Shinpachi to find a nice, real girl, and I really want Nobume to be a permanent part of the Yorozuya so she won’t be all alone anymore, so this is the solution I gave birth to. She’s way out of Pachi-kun’s league, but at least I know he will treat her like a queen and worship her.
