Megan made this fantastic character for the Coco universe and I absolutely love her! So me being the absolute trash I am had to write something for it. So I present to you @tallgirl14 ’s Bridgette Olson!!!
~*~
“What was it like?” Bridgette continues to examine Miguel’s hand, tracing her finger along the lines indented on his palm.
“I thought you didn’t believe me.” He watches her blonde hair fall in front of her face as she continues looking down, her mouth turns to the side in thought.
“I don’t, but if you were me wouldn’t you want to know what it was like to be a skeleton?” She looks up at him briefly then back at his hand, Miguel shrugs.
“It was scary at first, but then I just sort of got used to it, I barely noticed, if anything the only difference is you feel lighter.” The corner of her mouth twitches upward a bit at that, he watches as her finger starts to make different swirls and shapes on his hand. “Do you really have to move that much?”
“Yes.” Her answer is short and simple, her fingers stops moving and they just rest on his hand, Miguel looks up to see her looking at their hands with furrowed eyebrows.
“At least you have a lot of experience, different friends all over the place, and know a bunch of different languages.” He says somewhat cheerful hoping to at least lift her spirits some way, but Bridgette merely shrugs.
They don’t say anything as Bridgette continues to play with his hand, it had been around a year since Miguel had gone through his magical journey, since then a lot has happened, he’s been able to play his music and then there’s Bridgette. Bridgette had just moved into the neighborhood, she had been exploring when she, quite literally, ran into Miguel, it was a brief encounter, but then it happened again when Bridgette heard Miguel playing in town. There was something that was drawing them together, almost as if they were being pushed together, so after he was done performing, Bridgette introduced herself. To say there wasn’t something special about Miguel was an understatement, she knew there was more to him than met the eye, but she didn’t know what, until now.
It was a month into their friendship and Bridgette had told Miguel about her life at home and how here parents were part of the military, and how her parents were never home, she was lonely to say the least, it was a lot to take in. So Miguel told her about the shoe making business and his love of music and then about his journey to the afterlife, and then how he was finally able to live his dream. Their conversation didn’t get much further before Bridgette got angry at him, and start hitting, telling him that he was a jerk for having her spill her heart out to him, just so he can tell her some made up story to make her feel like an idiot. He gave her his hand trying to explain it was true saying that he was almost a full skeleton before he got sent back home by his papa Hector and mama Imelda. She took his hand in her lap mumbling about how she didn’t believe him, but they say in silence as she felt up his hand. And now they were here.
It’s silent again, Miguel waits for her to say something, anything but when she doesn’t he sighs and brings his other hand up to bring her fallen hairs back behind her ear, she looks up to face him for the first time with piercing grey eyes, Miguel doesn’t move his hand away from the side of her face. There’s a light wind that flows through both of their hair as they sit on top of the Rivieras rooftop, with the sun slowly setting in the background.
“I’m glad you move around a lot.” Miguel says with a smile, Bridgette looks at him incredulously. “Or else we would’ve never had become friends.” He shrugs as Bridgette allows herself to smile, she brings her other hand up to hold Miguel’s on her face, enjoying the comfort of human contact.
They don’t move from their position until they feel themselves slowly leaning into each other, inch by inch. Miguel’s head tilts to the side just a tad as both of their eyes flutter shut, their a breathe away from each other, Miguel’s hand still in her lap and his other held in place by Bridgette’s on her face, both so close to kissing the other.
“Miguel! Bridgette!” That is until they hear Miguel's Abuelita calling up to them, they pull away quickly, ignoring the raging blushes on their faces they turn to look over the edge to see her standing there with her hands on her hips.
“Si Abuela!” Miguel calls down looking embarrassed and flustered.
“¡Invita a tu amigo a que se una a nosotros para la cena! Hice arroz y tamales extra solo para ella” She smiles giving a wave to Bridgette before heading back inside, Bridgette looks at Miguel quizzically.
“Something about inviting me to dinner and extra tamales?” She asks hoping she understood correctly.
“Yep.” Miguel nods with a pursed smile, the two stand up to head down stairs, but accidentally bump heads on their way up, they hold onto each other for balance laughing a bit as they recover from the small hits to the noggin.
When they look up to face each other their suddenly reminded of their moment from earlier, it becomes silent aside from the light breeze shuffling the trees and leaves around them.
“Hey Miguel.” Bridgette’s voice catches them both off guard, but Miguel simply nods. “Thanks for listening.” Not sure what else to do, she gives him a light punch on the shoulder.
“No problem.” Miguel smiles before giving Bridgette the small gesture back. “You too.”
“Anytime.”
