The Memory
As the drell assassin remain laid out in the bed, quietly contemplating his thoughts. Nothing but a look of peace rested upon his features, something rather unusual. All things considered, he should not have found such ease during these times. There was no reason to, but since he'd come aboard the Normandy, his mind seemed slightly less chaotic. But here he lay, eyes loosely focused upon her who freed him from his blind path of redemption. Standing before him, as if the essence of freedom or perhaps compassion given shape? In truth, that thought held Thane's mind for a moment. How the pair first met, the factors that brought them together...closer despite the fact he felt sure his end was sooner than later. With his eyes exploring the room's ceiling in brief, Thane's eyes traveled until they found the one who'd charmed his heart. 'Lucy...' the thought drifting along quietly in his mind, bringing forth the memory he'd come to cherish. The first day that she convinced him to leave his room, simply to cease his contemplating and preparation, he'd never realized that such a simple act could be so defining. His mind roiled over the thought and though no words passed through his lips, with him smiling as the perfect replay clouded his vision. 'Midday aboard the Normandy, I am asked to join the others whilst contemplating and preparing myself for the next mission ahead. I ask if it is an order and am reminded that it is my choice what I do with my time. This leads me to consider momentarily the request and while not sure what drives me, I decide to accept. I find myself in question over why I chose to join the crew on a whim, whilst we head down for a meal. When offered food, I accept and find myself looking to the Commander of this collective of individuals in some curiosity. It is here that my intrigue is piqued and this sensation of feelings begins. An unusual feeling, something old that returned, it stirred then as my eyes came to rest upon her. The Commander in her element, not on mission, not leading, but simply being. It was her, the reason I'd somehow agreed to come here, it was not her words that swayed me. But what was promised: purpose that I'd come to find I was believing in. Even though now this was not why I was looking upon her, I find that reason in fact to be something alluring. A strength unseen since my last love, something that was sacred to me and yet lost. As if the age could not have matched what I've found with her now. 'Lucy' the name once more rang out in my mind and I found a smile coming to my face. As I looked upon her, it brought a movement to my heart that I had not found moved in so long. It was like a movement, a motion that I find myself in need of seeking, and a fire was lit from within. I wanted to know again, wanted to know much about her that was not necessary. Only that which I'd found once before, in the bond...the only bond to bring me joy and love. I quietly interacted with the other crew, but it was where my mind lingered that I found my heart beating once more with purpose.' It was her and finally the word was not merely uttered once more in mind, but vocally, for the as of now, former Drell Assassin spoke it with a smile. “...Lucy.” Lucy Shepard, who brought intrigue back into his life. -- A gift story (Secret Santa) to someone who’s rad, herein I have the context, as I let the story explain itself.

“With All My Heart”
Prompt - Love confessions.
It's better this way. For everyone. For him...
These were the words Commander Eliza Shepard repeated in her head ever since the Normandy arrived on the Citadel yesterday. Last night, she and her squad from the suicide mission had one last hurrah at Flux... one last night together before they went their separate ways, perhaps for good.
Some of the squad members were willing to stay with her on the Normandy when she turned herself in, but Shepard wouldn't allow it. She didn't want any of them to take any kind of fall nor be interrogated by the Alliance. The only ones who would be heading to Arcturus Station with her, out of necessity, were Joker, EDI (for obvious reasons), Dr. Chakwas, and a small skeleton crew – former Cerberus members who were willing to turn themselves in and offer what they knew about the organization to the Alliance.
Everyone else, her squad included, wouldn't be going with her for their own protection. It's better this way. For everyone. For him...
She said her goodbyes throughout the evening. In the morning, she arrived with only one squad member who would say goodbye to her today – Thane Krios. When they stopped near the terminal, standing face-to-face, a frown came over Shepard's lips as she felt her heart sink. She knew, ever since she made the decision to turn herself over to the Alliance, this goodbye was going to be the hardest.
It was also possible - given Thane’s illness and the upcoming fight against the Reapers - that she was seeing him for the last time.
“Do not worry, Siha,” Thane tried to assure her. He took a few steps forward to be closer to her. “You'll be free from this obligation sooner than you think.”
“I'm not so sure, Thane,” Shepard sighed. “I mean... being with Cerberus? Blowing up a relay that killed over three-thousand batarians? I wouldn't be surprised if Alliance brass already plan to throw me to the batarians...”
“I don't think it'll come to that, not with the shoddy evidence of your involvement, and not with all the good you've done before this,” Thane said solemnly.
Shepard took a deep breath. “Yeah... you might be right. At least Hackett is going to make the brass fight for whatever they plan to do with me. He believes the Reapers are coming... and he knows that I'm the only one who understands them more than any other human in existence. I get that they want to avoid war with the batarians and I agree with them, but... ”
Thane took her hands in his, his thumbs brushing over he knuckles in comfort. “No matter what happens, I have faith that it will work out. Before you know it, we will be reunited again, perhaps before the Reapers come.”
Shepard smiled at him, grateful for carrying faith for both of them. Like him, she always considered herself a spiritual person, but in times like these, when things felt uncertain, it was easy for her to have doubts and to lose any positive feelings over what may come.
Thane believed things with the Alliance would work out. Slowly, the more she thought about it, the more his faith made her believe, too.
Shepard cupped Thane's cheeks with both hands before she leaned forward to press her forehead to his. For a few moments, neither of them moved, both content to just stand here and feel the presence of the other. They were in their own world and nothing else mattered.
In that time, Shepard felt something deep within her chest, something she knew she had to tell Thane because this was likely her one and only chance. Another might not come after they went their separate ways.
“I love you, Thane Krios,” Shepard murmured. “I love you with all my heart. And I hope that, somehow, someway, that the spirits that guide us will let us see each other again in this lifetime.”
A fond smile came over Thane's face as his arms pulled her in closer to him. “And I love you, Eliza Shepard. I, too, hope that we will meet again soon in this mortal world. And if that opportunity comes to pass, then I will meet you across the sea.”
With those words, Shepard felt the tears sting her eyes. Quickly, she closed them before she covered the last few inches between them to press her lips to his. Thane returned the kiss and it was like that first time in her quarters – fiery, passionate, and full of love and devotion to the other. It ignited a fire within them, making them feel more alive.
Neither of them wanted to kiss to end, but eventually Shepard was forced to pull away. She knew she couldn't delay the Alliance any longer. She leaned her forehead to his one more time, savoring the moment for as long as she could.
Then, she kissed him one last time. “Goodbye, Thane,” she whispered.
Feeling the tears in her eyes again, Shepard began to step away before giving him the chance to say goodbye as well. Their hands, however, remained clasped until they were out of reach. When his hand left hers, she suddenly felt empty inside.
As she walked away, refusing to turn back to see him one last time (least she lose what control she had left over her emotions), Shepard couldn't help but feel a dread like a weight on her shoulders with each step she made towards her fate.
I wish you were here with me...
