Greenspan: No Viable Long-term Solution to our Badly Warped Economy' Without Fixing Political System
But Barack Obama said "Everything is fine... blah blah blah... jobs... great depression... I can barely even pretend to give a shit anymore." Ah, but not so says Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan.
While Greenspan still sees things in terms of left vs right (a delusional viewpoint we would argue), he does make some noteworthy comments.
Courtesy of Politico:
“Our highest priority going forward is to fix our broken political system. Short of that, there is no viable long-term solution to our badly warped economy. In America we are being pulled apart politically in ways unrivaled since the aftermath of the 1929 crash.
That imbalance is far greater than the official data portray [because of contingent liabilities to the U.S. government from possible rescues of large financial firms and iconic nonfinancial firms] … At risk is the status the American economy has held as the preeminent world economic power for more than a century."
OK, so the empire is on the verge of collapse. We knew that. It's nice to hear a former Fed chair say it though.
Noteworthy in the quote is the added context provided by politico stating there will be a "possible rescue of large financial firms and iconic non-financial firms."
What does that mean exactly? It means the government is planning to bail out all sorts of establishment corporation power structures in the future. Who? Well, who is at risk now? Insurance companies who've been forced to suffer under 0 percent interest rates, numerous pension funds that will go bust next time the stock market does, and of course, almost every single bank everywhere. Possible additions might include tech companies integrally tied to the surveillance state, general manufacturers like General Electric, or other members of the military industrial complex.
Greenspan is trying to get on the right side of history while there's still time. Long story short, the shit blizzard is coming.
