A slip in judgement, driven possibly by hunger. The little campsite it seems has been invaded by a strange being. Could be mistaken for a pokemon, others had more humanoid features than she did.
A little nosing around later results in her approaching the tent, crawling closer, until said nose can poke under a dark flap slowly. The search for food is sometimes a terrifying task.
tell me about isolde and maria! maria looks v sad is she okay
this is gonna be even longer now oh boy (dont worry maria is just shy) (but actually do worry because she goes through a lot of shit too)
the kingdom where the story takes place, the kingdom of myne, was not always the kingdom of myne. it used to be a holy, pure kingdom ruled by a religious family. isolde was the princess of this kingdom. she loves to sing hymns and has a strange fondness for goats.
when olivia’s army invades to take over the kingdom, although isolde has never been one for violence and has always been a loving pacifist, she decides to fight for her home. the grand cathedral of the kingdom is set on fire and isolde picks up a sword from a fallen soldier, prepared to fight off anyone she meets. none other than olivia herself enters the church and fights her. isolde is absolutely furious and ready to kill, but just when she believes she has the upper hand, the burning roof falls on top of her and crushes her to death. her beloved sanctuary is soon reduced to ashes, and olivia snatches her family’s dignity and nobility away by having killed them all.
years later, after myne has been well established as a kingdom, not too long after the death of scarlet and jasmine, a travelling theatre group comes to the kingdom. among the group are two orphaned twins, maria and veronica. maria is unlike her tough and rowdy sister, as she’s more docile and finds solace in the religious beliefs that saved her as a child. upon their arrival, veronica gets caught up in some rough gang activity, worrying maria, so she travels to the old site of the church, where a new, smaller church had been constructed, and prays for her.
isolde’s spirit has been wandering around the site of her death, and upon finding maria, she realizes that she can have her carry out her will. through some kind of supernatural means i still haven’t figured out the specifics of, she subconsciously guides maria through her days in the kingdom, providing strength in times of stress and leading her to clues about the queen’s merciless murders. olivia has done her best to cover up her tracks, but isolde’s watchful spirit knows exactly how to uncover the truth.
eventually, she gets caught sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong by olivia herself during one of her group’s performances. enraged, olivia threatens to throw her in a dungeon, but veronica arrives and tries to protect her sister by attacking the queen. this doesn’t really go well and veronica ends up being captured. she’s imprisoned and tortured by olivia for days on end, all while maria, having found out too much, can do nothing but cry. veronica dies just days later.
however, veronica and isolde’s spirits join forces and push maria’s subconscious even further. she knows she can’t give up after having come so close to exposing the queen for her crimes. to avenge the death of her sister, she gathers a large group of people, including the entire theatre group, and tries to spread word of the queen’s evil through the kingdom. they surprisingly get quite far, only to be cornered by guards and imprisoned–in the same cell where veronica’s corpse hangs from the shackles she died in.
the entire theatre group is then publicly executed, and the true crimes of the queen are brushed off as a rumor. when maria steps up to place her head down for the executioner, through her blurry tears she sees the spirit of isolde holding her close and smiling. she doesn’t know who she is, but she feels at peace. she knows somehow that she’ll be with her soon.
