[Hitting y’all with a non #zerowaste post today] If you checked out my stories you probably saw that I picked up this dope @carhartt jacket from @ltrainvintage, but before I decided to purchase it I had a long conversation with @itsalexwee about style, and how it affects my perception of gender. I personally love mixing both masculine and feminine inspired clothing, and having a balance of both in my outfits makes me feel best. But something about this traditionally masculine jacket made me hesitant - for so long I’ve been ingrained with the idea that in order to be pretty I had to wear dresses and skirts and accessories. On a first date, I find it hard to wear pants because I feel this underlying desire to look hyper feminine. So yesterday, while I wore this jacket with my chunky @drmartensofficial, pants, turtleneck, and beanie, I found myself taking a pause to question - is it okay to look like this some days and still want to wear skirts and dresses on other days? How would people perceive me based on the clothing I wore? And most of all - why did I care so much? If wearing this makes me happy, then shouldn’t I have no hesitation in getting it for myself? I ended up buying it (hooray!) and resolved to accept all facets of my style - feminine, masculine, and everything in between 😌 [image description: close up of Sabs’ wearing her new Carhartt jacket, a dainty heart + pearl necklace from her grandmother, and blue turtleneck from her other grandmother.
